“Cabrillo education foundation (cef) is making big impacts upon student success by taking on big educational issues i.e. Literacy, college and career readiness as well as college access and affordability. We are building the pathway for all of students to be successful and develop critical thinking skills beginning in preschool and throughout their college and career. Cef endowment: proceeds from the cef endowment provide sustainability for programs over the long term so that we can set long term achievement goals for k-3 literacy, college and career readiness as well as college and career accessibility.”

“Google, the coastside children's program among many others are partnering with cef and the cabrillo unified school district (cusd) to address literacy at the earliest levels. This is critical for all of our students to learn to read proficiently by the end of third grade so that they can then read to learn. - building upon pre-k literacy efforts cef funded k-3 programs so that 80% of our students will be reading proficiently by the end of third grade. Programs include the reader's workshop that provides high quality professional development for our teachers through columbia university's teacher's college reading and writing program. - in addition, cef has been building upon its investment in teacher development through providing "targeted" reading materials across the k-5 grade level range as part of the classrooms' libraries. Approximately 95% of students (1500) in the school district increased at least one reading level in the past year. - a pilot project was launched for summer literacy learning to be aligned with future big lift preschool efforts. College/career readiness - in 2015, cef funded student science and 100% of our students can now use state-of-the art technology such as digital probeware and sensors, complex physical models, high quality microscopes and computer software to conduct meaningful scientific investigations. - more than 1600 students benefited from faculty-directed professional development and collaboration to assist secondary science teachers in becoming models and experts in next generation science standards. - in 2015 cef partnered with the school district to pilot a full time science specialist for 5th grade science. It also launched computer science programs for elementary through high school to introduce computer science concepts and fundamentals”

“While in high school, financial counseling for college aid, college scholarships, and a mentoring support program for students to successfully complete college. The president and executive director of cef have both been invited to the white house to share their thoughts on college affordability issues.”
