We host many events on and around the mountain to encourage recreation consistent with the protection of natural resources. As we have done in prior years, in 2015 we hosted outdoor recreational events geared to a variety of user groups such as hikers, cyclists, runners, artists and scientists. Events included a long distance trail run, a backpacking/hiking trip, a bike ride, and family hikes. We lead many free guided hikes on our properties and in parks on Mount Diablo. We continued our hike & thrive program which resulted in us leading 50 hikes with nearly 900 attendees. |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc | 0 | Land Use Planning:In 2015, Save Mount Diablo acted as the watchdog protecting Mount Diablo from inappropriate development threats by testifying at dozens of public hearings and meetings as well as conducting site visits to proposed projects to educate decision makers about the impacts of development. On a weekly basis, Save Mount Diablo monitors 51 different planning agendas and responded to several dozen different development proposals around Mount Diablo from cell tower proposals and small subdivisions to large projects such as the reuse plan for the Concord Naval weapons station and threats to urban limit lines. Save Mount Diablo participated in a coalition working to establish an urban limit on the east side of Dublin, and to defend that urban limit line from a developer challenge in November. We responded to the Tassajara parks, Creekside Cemetery, Brentwood general plan, James Donlon extension, Montreux and Faria projects and were involved in the Concord Naval Weapons Station reuse plan and county wide transportation plan. Significant funds were expended on legal efforts related to the Nunn property in Brentwood, and related to Pittsburg projects.Stewardship:In total, we led 70 projects which included 800 volunteers who completed 5,000 hours of work on our properties. We restored a volcanic dome on our Marsh Creek 6 property and protected riparian habitat at our Curry Canyon Ranch property. We continuedcleanup projects at Curry Canyon Ranch and began cleanup at our Hanson Hills property. We fully implemented our fire abatement/Fuel load reduction program on all properties. We funded small grants, a Bioblitz and a colloquium as part of our Mary Bowerman Science and research program. |
