Mission

The contra costa chorale is a community-based, nonprofit music organization open to all singers in the community, committed to a high level of musical performance, emphasizing development of members' musical and vocal skills and our audience's musical knowledge and appreciation. We strive to build a sense of community both within our membership and between the chorale and the community at large.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
The Fall 2018 concert featured Gabriel Faurs Requiem, a favorite of choral singers and audiences alike. Preceding that were a number of other pieces by Faur, providing a well-rounded and exciting performance that demonstrated the breadth and depth of this great French composer. The program also displayed the progress that the Contra Costa Chorale singers have made under Music Director Cindy Beitmens guidance since her arrival in the fall of 2012. The more than 400 audience members at the two performances attested to the quality of the program and the singers. The student groups that were featured in the Opening Act were the Korematsu Middle School Glee Club under the direction of Jennifer Wu and the Dougherty Valley High School Chamber Singers led by Diana Walker.$39,887-
The Spring 2019 concert, "Out of the Shadows," featured the works of women composers from medieval to modern times. Ms. Beitmen and the Chorale led the audience on a magical musical tour of the compositions of these underrepresented artists. Once again, with her excellent programming skills, Ms. Beitmen provided both the Chorale singers and audience members with a deeper knowledge of the music presented and a new appreciation for an overlooked group of composers. Total attendance for this set of two performances was just under 400. The Opening Act student group was Madera Elementary School singers led by Jennifer Wu.--
As part of the Chorales new Community Connection program to support and promote choral singing in our region, the Opening Act continues to be the primary Contra Costa Chorale effort, featuring student performances from schools in the areas where the Chorale holds its concerts. The FY 2018-19 Opening Act groups are noted in the descriptions of the Fall and Spring concerts above. These have been enthusiastically received by the audience, and will continue to be an excellent method for promoting the Chorale's efforts to encourage youth to continue making music and to build the ranks of adult choral singers--
