“In 2017, hospice had 103 active volunteers doing various things such as direct patient care, office assistance, bereavement support, music/art/pet therapy, reiki/therapeutic touch/lmt, and helping with special events like festival of trees. Volunteers are also actively involved in working with transitions patients. The transitions program serves as pre-hospice, where volunteers perform the same patient care functions, in addition to transporting patients to appointments, assisting patients by running errands, etc. All hospice volunteers attend ongoing educational training. In 2017 there were 135 volunteers for the festival of trees event. Festival of trees is a premier holiday extravaganza. Held the week of thanksgiving, our volunteers help transform the valley river inn into a winter wonderland. Volunteers help with setting up and taking down of the event. They also help during the event providing information to guests, taking tickets, selling raffle tickets, and helping at various areas within the event.”
