“Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b - FORM 990 REVIEW PROCESS: The 990 is reviewed by the Board of Directors prior to submission. The 990 is first submitted to the Finance Committee. The Finance Committee reviews the 990, suggests corrections, and then presents the amended document to the full board. The board then reviews the 990 prior to submission.”

“Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c - EXPLANATION OF MONITORING AND ENFORCEMENT OF CONFLICTS: Board members sign our conflict of interest policy when they join the board and it is reviewed by the Co-Directors and then filed. Each year, board members are asked to fill out a conflict of interest disclosure statement. Any items of interest are reviewed by the Co-Directors.”

“Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 - COMPENSATION REVIEW AND APPROVAL PROCESS (CEO & TOP MANAGEMENT AND OFFICERS & EMPLOYEES): Executive Directors prepare a budget based on the Non Profit Resource Center's "Compensation Guide for Northern CA" and the Board approves it. Board uses this guide to set the salaries of the Co-Directors.”

“SIERRA HARVEST VOLUNTEERS: This year 238 generous volunteers worked over 2,260 hours to help Sierra Harvest accomplish their mission and vision. These volunteers built backyard gardens for low income families, taught cooking classes at 24 elementary schools and 4 high schools during Tasting Days, donated their time to help harvest fruit and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste from farms and home orchards and distributed them to those in need. They turned beds, planted starts, harvested, and weeded at our Food Love Educational Farm. They helped our staff produce over ten events that allowed our community to deeply engage in supporting the local food movement. Our board of directors helped create the next 5 year strategic plan and investment policy putting the plans in place to achieve long-term impact. Our future goals include 1) A community that values and eats an abundance of fresh, local, seasonal food; 2) Successful local farmers that are increasing sustainable food production; 3) Equitable access to fresh, local seasonal food; 4) A thriving, financially viable non-profit loved by its employees and the community.”

“This year, Sierra Harvest launched an exciting new partnership with the Bear Yuba Land Trust, BriarPatch Food Coop, and the Tahoe Food Hub to support farmers and ranchers in achieving long-term land security in our region by protecting farmland forever. Our goal is to identify & protect farmland from development and subdivision, and give farmers and ranchers the land-access they need to invest in and build thriving agricultural businesses. Our first project is protecting the 37-acre property on Birchville Rd. in Nevada City, CA that Mountain Bounty Farm has been leasing. Together, the program partners have raised the money to purchase this property, put it into agricultural conservation easement and lease it back to farmers in perpetuity to produce local food for our community for generations. This will allow Mountain Bounty to make long-term infrastructure investments, and will allow the next generation of farmers the land security to succeed the original farm owner and manage the business in the future. We are currently in the process of identifying the next Forever Farm in our community!”
