Mission

The mission of the maryland professionalism center is to educate, promote and improve professionalism in the conduct of all those involved in and interacting with the legal profession (lawyers, judges, and the public).

The mission of the maryland professionalism center will be to support and encourage members of the judiciary to exhibit the highest level of professionalism and to support and encourage lawyers to exercise the highest level of professional integrity in their relationships with their clients, other lawyers, the courts and the public, and to fulfill their obligations to improve the law and legal system. The maryland professionalism center will be the hub for legal professionalism efforts in maryland; will create initiatives to ensure that legal professionals treat one another with civility, collegiality and respect, and will encourage judges and lawyers to support and enhance the public's trust in the legal community.

THE VOLUNTARY PROGRAM WORKS ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT LEVELS TO FOSTER THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW ATTORNEY'S CAREER WHILE CREATING A SENSE OF PRIDE AND PURPOSE FOR THE MENTOR. THE MENTORING PROGRAM FOR NEW ADMITTEES IS DESIGNED TO ELEVATE THE COMPETENCE, PROFESSIONALISM, AND SUCCESS OF MARYLAND ATTORNEYS BY CREATING POSITIVE MENTORING RELATIONSHIPS. THE MENTORING RELATIONSHIP PROMOTES THE FOLLOWING: A) FOSTERS THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW ADMITTEE'S PRACTICE SKILLS AND INCREASES HIS OR HER KNOWLEDGE OF LEGAL CUSTOMS; B) CONTRIBUTES TO A SENSE OF INTEGRITY IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION; C) PROMOTES COLLEGIAL RELATIONSHIPS AMONG LEGAL PROFESSIONALS AND INVOLVEMENT IN THE ORGANIZED BAR; D) IMPROVES LEGAL ABILITY AND PROFESSIONAL JUDGMENT; AND E) ENCOURAGES THE USE OF BEST PRACTICES AND HIGHEST IDEALS IN THE PRACTICE OF LAW.
