Client Note 1

Client Note 1 - EXEMPT PURPOSE ACHIEVEMENTSKV 265 2020 ACTIVITY REPORTIn 2020, KV 265 continued to further its mission of communicating science through music and the visual arts with its series of Science & Symphony films and related events. Our in-person presentations and production work out in the field was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic; however, we pivoted our distribution model to focus on virtual offerings and ended 2020 net revenue positive.Prior to the pandemic shutdown, our films were presented in 4 live concerts in Anchorage and Sitka, Alaska, and in Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg, Florida. Twenty additional concerts scheduled for 2020 were cancelled or postponed due to the COVID-19 shutdowns. Instead, KV 265 presented its films as part of virtual lectures. This contrasts with our 23 in-person concerts and 20 in-person lectures offered in 2019 which reached more than 43,000 people.Prudent fiscal management gave the organization operational flexibility during this challenging year. Even despite the lack of in-person symphonic concerts as our traditional distribution model, KV 265 continued to reach audiences and impact scientific and musical learning. SCIENCE & SYMPHONY FILM PRODUCTIONWith the support of a second Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts we continued working on two new Science & Symphony films, Nocturnes, with music by Claude Debussy, and Moontides, with original music commissioned by KV 265 from composer John Estacio. Original photography planned for Moontides in Canada and England had to be postponed due the pandemic and resulting travel bans. Film production work in 2020 was limited to image processing and video editing in our studio but the delayed trips have been rescheduled for 2021.We produced three educational videos for online viewing in association with Ravinia Festival and musicians from Chicago Sinfonietta. The videos combine symphonic performances with our original science films and feature explanations by both musicians and scientists. The videos were distributed to Chicago area teachers for use as virtual curriculum and will reach more than 10,000 students.
