(For a complete list of KV 265 concert presentations & lectures please see attached list.)Special Awards & AccomplishmentsDr. Salgado was invited as the 2015 Distinguished Alumnus Lecturer at the University of Michigan Astronomy Department for his art and science education work with KV 265. KV 265 was asked to give a special lecture on our Science & Symphony films for the Society of Neurological Surgeons on June 8, 2015. KV 265 has also been asked to give a special lecture for them in May 2016 in Chicago on communicating science through art.New Works Under ProductionUniverse at an ExhibitionMusic by Modest MussorgskyFilm by Emmy-nominated astronomer/visual artist, Dr. Jos Francisco Salgado Premiere performance: New York Wind Symphony, December 19, 2015, Sugarloaf, NYThis new production is in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope. Taking as inspiration Mussorgskys Pictures at an Exhibition, this film takes viewers through virtual exhibit galleries featuring awe-inspiring, art-like images, and science visualizations of the cosmos as well as the film directors own astronomy-inspired artwork and photographs. As the camera moves towards works of art, audience members find themselves entering space through pictures and flying past Earth, planets, stars, black holes, and galaxies in formation. This film will feature images from NASAs Great Observatories (Hubble, Spitzer, and Chandra) and major ground observatories (e.g., European Southern Observatory) and visualizations from the Scientific Visualization Studio at NASAs Goddard Space Flight Center and the National Center from the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.Aurora TriptychMusic: Solaris, Borealis, and Wondrous Light by John EstacioFilm by Emmy-nominated astronomer/visual artist, Dr. Jos Francisco Salgado Borealis Movement: Chicago Premiere: May 21 & 23, 2015 at Symphony Center and Wentz Concert Hall, North Central College.Joining together three thematically related short pieces by renowned Canadian composer John Estacio, this film takes audience members on a journey that begins in the atmosphere of the Sun and ends in the upper atmosphere above of Earths northern latitudes. The second movement, Borealis has been completed and will receive the Chicago premiere with the Chicago Sinfonietta May 21 & 23, 2015. Solaris and Wondrous Light are currently under production and will be completed in 2016.The film will feature impressive images of the Sun taken by NASAs Solar Dynamics Observatory, visualizations from the Scientific Visualization Studio at NASAs Goddard Space Flight Center, and time-lapse photography of the aurorae taken by astronauts aboard the International Space Station.
