Omsf further facilitates cross-institutional collaboration as a mission-driven, nonprofit organization that can act as a neutral ground where researchers from different institutions can work together to develop better common research infrastructure developed in the open and freely available to all collaborators as well as the general public. In 2021, we established two consortia (hosted projects): >open force field consortium. The open force field (openff) consortium is a network of academic and industry researchers working together to advance molecular sciences and infrastructure required for building the next generation of small molecule and biomolecular force fields. Force fields represent physics-based models used to simulate molecular behavior and interactions - these models are heavily used in fundamental and applied research, such as drug discovery, material design, etc. Software and data are released under open licensing agreements to enable rapid application, validation, extension and any kind of modification by our users and contributors. In addition, the initiative aims to build and support a strong community of users and contributors from industry and academia. The openff consortium is funded through the membership fees paid by the industry partners and it raised 565,000 in 2021. Openff consortium was established in 2018 and previously sponsored by virginia tech. >open free energy consortium. The open free energy (openfe) consortium is focused on development of research software for estimating binding affinities of small molecules to protein targets - this simulation technique is primarily used in drug discovery, but also in fundamental research. Openfe is a new project launched by the omsf in september 2021, and it raised 392,500.33 in 2021.”
