Part III (summary of mission): VIP is a non-profit Arizona Corporation whose mission is to promote the social welfare and well-being of Arizonans by developing coordinated and unified efforts among organizations committed to formulating and implementing solutions to community problems. Part III Line 28 Statement of Program Accomplishments: VIP promotes cooperation and interchange among organizations which strive for justice and public accountability in areas such as housing, education, employment, community development and healthcare. Recent Highlights 2018-2019:Healthcare and Safety Net programs: VIP conducted civic academies on healthcare and safety net programs. Topics included the reach of Medicaid and KidsCare in Arizona, respite care, threats to safety net programs, including SNAP (food stamps), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families and the impact of proposed federal rule changes, including changes to public charge. These led to VIP leader outreach to public officials and the community at large. Education Finance. VIP organized civic academies to teach the persisting deficit in education funding and the historical context for the slow recovery of the state budget. Leaders learned to engage with governing board members, superintendents and legislators. Leaders developed strategies for local bond and override elections and for non-partisan accountability sessions with legislative candidates on state issues of concern.Immigration: VIP held house meetings with immigrant families who are members of VIP churches. These conversations and subsequent leadership training facilitated critical conversations with law enforcement officials and mayors. VIP held teaching sessions with local congregations on the experience of asylum seekers. These sessions prepared congregational leaders to volunteer with relief efforts and to advocate for humane treatment of asylum seekers.Non-Partisan Accountability Sessions: VIP conducted informational meetings with candidates, and held formal, non-partisan, candidate forums, or accountability sessions. VIP leaders were able to convey the potential impact of decisions made by Legislators, Corporation Commissioners, and Maricopa Community College Board Members on Arizona families. VIP leaders informed the candidates of the VIP Human Development Agenda, the priorities for the needs of Arizona families. Ballot Proposition Sessions: VIP conducted information sessions on the slate of ballot propositions at several VIP member institutions.Non-partisan neighborhood GOTV walks: VIP organized walks in low-voter-turnout neighborhoods, engaging residents in conversations about issues that impacted them. These non-partisan Get-Out-the-Vote conversations developed interest and motivation to participate in the election among many residents. Workforce Training/Arizona Career Pathways: VIP leaders held outreach sessions at VIP member institutions to explain workforce and training issues to families in need of sustainable, family wage jobs. These sessions explored the changing labor market and the need to attain two-year associate degrees and certificates, to qualify for mid-range jobs with a career path and benefits. This work also enabled VIP leaders to meet with business leaders, city officials and Maricopa Community College board members, discussing expansion of workforce opportunities for low-income families to enter into effective work training.
