IRS990ScheduleO/GeneralExplanation/Explanation0Part III (summary of mission): VIP is a non-profit Arizona Corporation whose mission is to promote the social welfare and well-being of Arizonans by developing coordinated and unified efforts among organizations committed to formulating and implementing solutions to community problems. Part III line 28 continued: by developing coordinated and unified efforts among organizations committed to formulating and implementing solutions to community problems. VIP promotes cooperation and interchange among organizations which strive for justice and public accountability in areas such as housing, education, employment, community development and health care. Recent Highlights ? 2012-2013 Medicaid Expansion. VIP leaders conducted civic academies around the issue of Medicaid Expansion, engaging experts in the health care industry to understand the impact of the AHCCCS freeze and integrating the actual experience of families who suffered the loss of health care. This eventually led a spring assembly with 800 leaders that brought together key to demonstrate support for the state9s most vulnerable residents. Insurance Reform. VIP leaders leveraged the Arizona Department of Insurance (ADOI) to protect the interests of individuals who purchase health insurance by adopting new rules that to require a rate review process that create more transparent information for consumers and a process to review rate hike requests that includes public input and scrutiny. Education Finance. VIP organized sessions to teach the downward trend in state education spending, providing parents and teachers with a historical context for the current budget reductions. Leaders learned the ability to converse effectively with school superintendents, governing board members, and legislators, as well as to develop local strategies to engage their own communities around bond and override issues this fall. City Budgeting. Leaders studied the proposed city budget and the implications for families and youth, especially disparities in after-school and summer youth programs. Local leaders then were able to dialogue with the city manager and their local council members to increase the city?s investment in these areas. Immigration. VIP continued to conduct academies around the issue of immigration reform and the local impact on our youth and families. These trainings allowed VIP clergy to leverage important conversations with the state?s congressional delegation, urging immigration reform. VIP Leaders held sessions within congregations to outline the options for Deferred action. Workforce training/Arizona Career Pathways. VIP member institutions to explain workforce and training issues to families in need of sustainable, family wage jobs. These sessions explored the changing labor market and the need to attain two-year associate degrees and certificates, for mid-range jobs that pay well, with a career path and benefits. These sessions have enabled VIP leaders to meet with business leaders, city officials, and the Maricopa Community College District to expand workforce opportunities for low-income families to enter into effective workforce training.
