FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Grammy's house strives to educate the community at large about the effects of domestic violence on adults and children.

State university-carlsbad (nmsu-c) and new mexico legal aid (nmla). First, our partnership with nmsu has evolved over the past three years; more so, this past year, which has been one of our more successful years for educational program outreach. Due to this partnership, grammy's house now has one full service computer lab and three (3) ged and esl instructors who assist residential and non-residential clients. Our clients are able to attend ged and/or esl classes on-site in a safe setting. Our partnership with nmla came from a yearlong collaboration with attorneys at nmla. Nmla provides grammy's house clients with pro-bono attorney services twice a month at grammy's house. The nmla attorney utilizes our office space and our clients are afforded legal representation along with various dv related legal services that otherwise would be too expensive for them to procure. This year we were in a position to hire more qualified individuals to fill positions that require a degreed person with relevant training. This practice has proved to be beneficial to our agency in the sense that the services being rendered are being delivered in a timely professional manner. The outcomes are evidenced in our client outcome measures. For example, even though our shelter has not been full for quite some time (6months to be exact), our program services numbers continue to steady and very much sought after by those in this community as well as the surrounding communities. The team at grammy's house recognized that services need to evolve to meet the needs of those who need us most currently, grammy's house has services for all ages and genders who seek dv related support services.

Grammy's house annually evaluates all federal and state income tax positions. This process includes an analysis of whether these income tax positions the organization takes meet the definition of an uncertain tax position under the income taxes topic of the financial accounting standards codification. As of june 30, 2016 there were no uncertain tax positions noted. Grammy's house policy is to classify income tax penalties and interest, when applicable, according to their natural classification. Under the statute of limitations, grammy's house tax returns are no longer subject to examination by tax authorities for years prior to 2013.

WE ADDED A GENDER-SPECIFIC TEEN SURVIVOR SUPPORT GROUP, TWO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TRAINED COUNSELORS (BILINGUAL), AND A SUPPORT GROUP FOR THE YOUNGER CHILDREN. THE GROUPS' SERVICES EVOLVED DUE TO THE NEEDS OF THE YOUNGEST VICTIMS RESIDING IN OUR COMMUNITY. ADDITIONALLY, WE WERE ABLE TO IMPLEMENT BOTH THE TEEN AND KID'S SUPPORT GROUPS INTO OUR NEW CYFD GRANT WHICH WILL PROVIDE FUNDING FOR THESE GROUPS TO BE ACTIVE FOR FOUR YEARS. WE WERE ABLE TO SEEK ADDITIONAL FUNDING TO HIRE THE TWO QUALIFIED DV COUNSELORS. OTHER RELEVANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE OUR PARTNERSHIPS WITH NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY-CARLSBAD (NMSU-C) AND NEW MEXICO LEGAL AID (NMLA). FIRST, OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH NMSU HAS EVOLVED OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS; MORE SO, THIS PAST YEAR, WHICH HAS BEEN ONE OF OUR MORE SUCCESSFUL YEARS FOR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM OUTREACH. DUE TO THIS PARTNERSHIP, GRAMMY'S HOUSE NOW HAS ONE FULL SERVICE COMPUTER LAB AND THREE (3) GED AND ESL INSTRUCTORS WHO ASSIST RESIDENTIAL AND NON-RESIDENTIAL CLIENTS. THIS PRACTICE HAS PROVED TO BE BENEFICIAL TO OUR AGENCY IN THE SENSE THAT THE SERVICES BEING RENDERED ARE BEING DELIVERED IN A TIMELY PROFESSIONAL MANNER. THE OUTCOMES ARE EVIDENCED IN OUR CLIENT OUTCOME MEASURES. FOR EXAMPLE, EVEN THOUGH OUR SHELTER HAS NOT BEEN FULL FOR QUITE SOME TIME (6MONTHS TO BE EXACT), OUR PROGRAM SERVICES NUMBERS CONTINUE TO STEADY AND VERY MUCH SOUGHT AFTER BY THOSE IN THIS COMMUNITY AS WELL AS THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. FIRST, OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH NMSU HAS EVOLVED OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS; MORE SO, THIS PAST YEAR, WHICH HAS BEEN ONE OF OUR MORE SUCCESSFUL YEARS FOR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM OUTREACH. DUE TO THIS PARTNERSHIP, GRAMMY'S HOUSE NOW HAS ONE FULL SERVICE COMPUTER LAB AND THREE (3) GED AND ESL INSTRUCTORS WHO ASSIST RESIDENTIAL AND NON-RESIDENTIAL CLIENTS. OUR CLIENTS ARE ABLE TO ATTEND GED AND/OR ESL CLASSES ON-SITE IN A SAFE SETTING. OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH NMLA CAME FROM A YEARLONG COLLABORATION WITH ATTORNEYS AT NMLA. NMLA PROVIDES GRAMMY'S HOUSE CLIENTS WITH PRO-BONO ATTORNEY SERVICES TWICE A MONTH AT GRAMMY'S HOUSE. THE NMLA ATTORNEY UTILIZES OUR OFFICE SPACE AND OUR CLIENTS ARE AFFORDED LEGAL REPRESENTATION ALONG WITH VARIOUS DV RELATED LEGAL SERVICES THAT OTHERWISE WOULD BE TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THEM TO PROCURE. THIS YEAR WE WERE IN A POSITION TO HIRE MORE QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALS TO FILL POSITIONS THAT REQUIRE A DEGREED PERSON WITH RELEVANT TRAINING. THIS PRACTICE HAS PROVED TO BE BENEFICIAL TO OUR AGENCY IN THE SENSE THAT THE SERVICES BEING RENDERED ARE BEING DELIVERED IN A TIMELY PROFESSIONAL MANNER. THE OUTCOMES ARE EVIDENCED IN OUR CLIENT OUTCOME MEASURES. FOR EXAMPLE, EVEN THOUGH OUR SHELTER HAS NOT BEEN FULL FOR QUITE SOME TIME (6MONTHS TO BE EXACT), OUR PROGRAM SERVICES NUMBERS CONTINUE TO STEADY AND VERY MUCH SOUGHT AFTER BY THOSE IN THIS COMMUNITY AS WELL AS THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES.
