Community life collaborative (clc) mission statement: to engage communities in social and environmental justice by empowering untapped relationships, collaborations and understandings across boundaries.”
“In 2023, the clc continued to offer programs to raise awareness about social and environment justice issues through several forums. The our nature forum, focussed on climate change and sustainable practices: the power of water: a day of exploration with workshops on how and why to build rain gardens, planting to attract pollinators, and the benefits and ways to incorporate native plants into landscapes. Rain barrels and kits for collecting rainwater were given to attendees to install at home. A book signing and presentation by author alexander repenning about his book beginning to end the climate crisis. Repenning and coauthor luisa neubauer are climate activists in their home country of germany. He shared the ways they have been able to impact attitudes and create change. That same day included a presentation on how to organize individuals to raise awareness and work toward making a difference. This was followed by a climate fresk, an interactive educational group activity identifying the causes and effects of climate change. Attendees were also given repenning's book. More than forty individuals participated. Rejuvenate your landscape was a program with presentations by three local organizations about the benefits of planting native plants and how they bring life and biodiversity back to an area. Attendees were given native plants to plant in their own landscapes. A gallery space was created in 2023 to provide an additional way to raise awareness of social justice and environmental justice issues through art.three gardenview gallery photography exhibits throughout the year emphasized environmental issues and impacts. Wings and voices over the cuyahoga showed the migratory birds that have returned to the region due to environmental restoration work. Bees, bugs and butterflies raised awareness of pollinators and their importance. The crooked river contrasts exhibit chronicled the transformation of the cuyahoga river since catching on fire more than 50 years ago. Historian joe valencic spoke on the impact the river has had on the development of cleveland and how that fire inspired a national environmental cleanup movement. The welcome kettle project continued in 2023 to raise awareness and promote understanding through hearing the stories and learning about the lives and needs of immigrants in our region. The columbus crossing borders project, a combination art exhibit and film were shown in the gardenview gallery for three weeks. The film "breathe free", is a documentary about the process of creating the exhibit, focussed on the personal experiences of refugees and asylum seekers fleeing their home countries. At the opening reception the artist and creator of the project spoke, music by a ukrainian immigrant was played, foods from a variety of cultures was served. That was followed at a later date with programs by local organizations who seek to help settle immigrants in ne ohio. A talk by united states committee for refugees and immigrants (uscri), americans making immigrants safe (amis) and ohio immigrant alliance (oia) brought awareness of the realities and needs of refugees in our region. Several refugees attended and shared their experience. Prism series: racial equity, acceptance and inclusion are all part of social justice. The leaf party and oak-y dokie 5k and able acorn walk was created to provide an opportunity for all ages and abilities to be able to participate together. The showing of mama bears, a documentary, gave insight into the lives of transgender youth and their families. It addressed issues related to gender and identity and the necessity of having support systems. The george floyd quilt exhibit brought the final words of george floyd into focus, through the art form of individual quilts. They were the work of individual members of several ucc churches in new hampshire. A zoom conversation with the creators was part of the opening reception. This moving and impactful exhibit was in our building for one wee”
“Community life collaborative complies with fasb asc 740 accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. Fasb asc 740 details how companies should recognize, measure, present and disclose uncertain tax positions that have been or are expected to be taken. As such, the financial statements would reflect expected future tax consequences of uncertain tax positions presuming the taxing authorities' full knowledge of the position and all relevant facts, if they existed. The management of the organization believes that there are no uncertain tax positions. The organization's tax years that remain subject to examination by the internal revenue service are fiscal years ended december 31, 2020 and forward.”
