Mission

The mission of the black canyon regional land trust is to serve as a non- political, non-governmental organization that encourages and assists private landowners in preserving and sustaining the rural heritage, natural, and cultural conservation values primarily in the watersheds of the uncompahgre, north fork of the gunnison, and lower gunnison rivers and surrounding areas, for the benefit of the public, today and in perpetuity.

Volunteers assisted with property monitoring, mailings, and organizing special events. The board of directors also serve in a volunteer capacity.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 1, Part II, Line 5

The organization has a written policy regarding monitoring, inspecting, and enforcing violations of easement agreements.

Schedule D, Page 1, Part II, Line 9

The trust does not assign a value to the conservation easements. The conservation easements are not reported in the assets of the trust.

Schedule D, Page 2, Part V, Line 4

The board has designated a portion of the easement acquisition project fees to support the perpetual stewardship and legal defense of easements. The amounts designated in the stewardship and legal defense funds as of march 31, 2016, are 1,295,909 and 314,682, respectively. Temporarily restricted net assets include amounts restricted by donors for specific purposes. These net assets will be released when the purpose restrictions are accomplished.

The trust has received an internal revenue service exemption from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3). Accordingly, no provision or liability for income taxes has been provided in the accompanying financial statements.
