Mission and Program Overview
Mission
Western Dairy Association works on behalf of dairy farm families in Colorado, Montana and Wyoming. WDA is centered on protecting and promoting the image of dairy farms, dairy farmers, and dairy products, and increasing sales and consumer confidence for dairy milk, cheese and yogurt. All activities are developed with strategic partnerships; education to communities about the local value and contributions of dairy farms; education about the health and nutrition benefits of dairy products within schools and amongst health professionals; working with dairy processors and targeted projects; and education audiences and consumers about the nutritional value of dairy.

- IMAGE AND INDUSTRY RELATIONS PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT THE NATIONAL AND REGIONAL NON BRANDED DAIRY PROMOTION PROGRAM. WDA is dedicated to gaining public trust and enhancing dairy's image by showcasing the value of having a "best in class" dairy industry in the region. Through its communications, issues management, crisis preparedness and dairy farmer image, the over-arching II&R goals are to maintain and build awareness of and support for the dairy checkoff program among dairy producers and the dairy industry; help maintain and grow public confidence in dairy producers, dairy products and the dairy industry; the Producer Relations and Industry Image and Relations Program will be developed with nine core competencies.

- CHILD NUTRITION AND FITNESS PROGRAM DEDICATED TO SCHOOLS IN THE WESTERN DAIRY ASSOCIATION MARKET STATES TO ENHANCE THE HEALTH AND NUTRITION OF CHILDREN IN SCHOOL. Fuel Up To Play60 (FUTP60) is designed to build on existing National Dairy Council programs - including New Look of School Milk (NLSM) and Expanding Breakfast. The program is well-received as it helps schools meet basic needs and reach wider wellness goals. For dairy, it makes progress toward dairy product access in schools. FUTP60's initial successes have attracted support from USDA, multiple health organizations, media, and key corporations. The momentum for the effort is just beginning. Ultimately, FUTP60 will further cement dairy's leadership around the child health issue, measurably advance the health and wellness of America's youth and establish lifelong dairy consumers. Overall program goals are to mobilize and engage youth in partnership with the NFL, to facilitate changes in the school environment; increase access to and consumption of nutrient rich foods (particularly low-fat, fat-free dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains); increase opportunity for and involvement in 60 minutes of physical activity daily.
