To measure and better understand our impact, we benchmark our efforts against a nationwide database called shelter animals count. This database allows us to track our progress and save lives by guiding decision making, highlighting areas of inefficiencies or opportunities for collaboration through data. In 2017 we celebrated: -89.6% success rate of returning stray dogs to their owners -more than 2 and a half times the national average of 35% -22% success rate of returning stray cats to their owners -nearly 5 times the national average of 4.5% -on average cats were in our care for just under 12 days and dogs for under 6 days with an average length of stay for all animals of under 9 days. In 2017: -5,973 animals were welcomed into our shelter -2,624 homeless animals found their forever homes -2,904 stray animals found a safe haven at larimer humane society in their time of need -1,627 of these lost animals were reunited with their families -410 animals were cared for in loving foster homes until they were ready to be adopted -665 animals were transferred in or out of our shelter to give them the best opportunity for a second chance -94,512 meals provided -51,814 days of care -1,117 miles walked by dogs -1,186 cats cuddled -623 small mammals socialized -19 high energy dogs received additional training and enrichment through our mellow mutts program. -137 fearful, sensitive and anxious cats received extra love and attention through our pets needing patience program. -in 2017, we implemented a fast track for animals under 9lbs or 4 months of age to help them find loving new homes quicker in addition, we welcomed more than 70 chihuahuas from one home into our shelter and in july 2016 participated in clear the shelters, a nationwide adoption event sponsored by telemundo and adopted out 80 animals into loving new homes in just one day

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

In 2017, our officers responded to 19,618 calls for service. In 2017 our organization worked collaboratively to enhance our bite prevention program to help protect public safety. Animal protection & control officers teamed up with our humane education, marketing & community outreach teams to provide education and awareness on reading dog body language and how to safely interact with a strange dog to help reduce dog bites in our community. We provided 20 presentations to children and adults, created and distributed public service announcements, social media and blog posts to help inform our community on bite prevention.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

In 2017, they: -performed 1,663 total surgeries. Including -1,170 spay/neuter surgeries -240 dental surgeries -57 other surgeries -administered 8,900 vaccinations we partnered with colorado state university's veterinary teaching hospital to provide the opportunities for fourth-year veterinary students to perform 196 spay/neuter surgeries and other lifesaving procedures, increasing our organization's capacity and providing hands-on learning for students. We implemented new process for medical exams upon arrival. This new process means all animals receive a physical exam by a veterinary technician within 24 hours of entering our shelter. These exams help identify medical issues earlier so our veterinary team can better care for animals and implement a treatment plan quicker.
