“In 2023, the forum started developing a new workstream, targeting key issues around young child feeding, notably on the lack of nutritious, safe complementary feeding. In response to this pressing issue, the micronutrient forum convened two expert consultants in july and december to address gaps in evidence, identify barriers and opportunities, and agree on priority actions to improve child diets during the complementary feeding period (from ages 6-23 months), especially for low-income households.”
“(Expenses $ 681,596 including grants of $ 0)(Revenue $ 111,390) The Standing Together for Nutrition consortium (ST4N) was established in 2020 in response to the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on global economic, health, and food systems. As conflicts escalated globally and food prices soared, further exacerbating the strain on the nutrition, health, and resources of vulnerable communities, ST4N played a crucial role in ensuring that nutrition remained a priority on the global policy agenda. Bringing together a broad multidisciplinary group of experts, the ST4N Consortium focused on evidence generation, knowledge mobilization, advocacy, and collaborative partnerships, effectively bridged knowledge gaps, and promoted viable solutions to mitigate the harm caused by global crises. In 2023, ST4N published its Impact Report highlighting the significant achievements of the program from 2020 to 2022, addressing the impact of COVID-19, conflicts such as the Ukraine war, and the subsequent food crises on nutrition, particularly for women and children. The Report detailed how ST4N's evidence influenced policy and funding, leading to references in COVID-19 pandemic funding commitments of over $1.2 billion. AT THE END OF 2023 ST4N ORGANISED A DONOR MEETING AND BROUGHT TOGETHER A STEERING COMMITTEE OF EXPERTS WORKING IN FOODSYSTEMS, NUTRITION AND CLIMATE CHANGE TO PROVIDE INPUT IN A 3 YEAR PROPOSAL ON NUTRITION AND CLIMATE CHANGE, DISCUSS THE FIRST VERSION OF A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK ON HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACTS NUTRITION AND DISCUSS / RESEARCH PRIORITIES IN NUTRITION AND CLIMATE CHANGE. Furthermore, ST4N and its partners, UNICEF and the World Food Program, worked on the Global Resilience Report which was published in early 2024. This report documented how despite immense challenges over the last several years, many governments demonstrated remarkable capacity to safeguard nutrition for vulnerable populations. Governments acted during this period when a devastating combination of crises - a poly-crisis - deepened food and nutrition insecurity, including the cascading effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, climatic and economic crises, and new and protracted conflicts. The Report highlighted stories of hope, lessons learned, and recommended policy actions to safeguard the nutrition of vulnerable populations before, during, and after crises.”
“(Expenses $ 316,188 including grants of $ 0)(Revenue $ 401,844) In 2023, the Forum started developing a new workstream, targeting key issues around young child feeding, notably the lack of Nutritious, Safe Complementary Feeding. Two out of three children ages 6 to 23 months are not receiving the right nutritious foods, in the right quantities, and in the right frequencies for healthy growth, development, and future economic success. In response to this pressing issue, the Micronutrient Forum convened two expert consultations to address gaps in evidence, identify barriers and opportunities, and agree on priority actions to improve child diets during the complementary feeding period (from ages 6-23 months), especially for low-income households. On June 8-9, 2023, 31 participants from academia, research institutes, implementing organizations, and the United Nations convened to discuss priorities and key activities aimed at aligning and catalyzing food-based actions to enhance the micronutrient quality of diets for older infants and young children. The experts formulated a set of recommendations focusing on research, implementation and programming, and advocacy and policy. A group of 43 experts gathered on December 4-5, 2023 to deliberate strategies for increasing the availability, affordability, accessibility, and aspirational aspects of nutritious and safe foods suitable for complementary feeding, particularly for low-income households. These participants, representing diverse expertise in nutrition, food systems, policy, and business, proposed thirteen recommendations across four core areas, including six priority actions to be urgently implemented.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | The Forum's flagship activity in 2023 was the 6th Micronutrient Forum Global Conference held online and in The Hague, The Netherlands from October 16-20. Over 2,200 experts, scientists, practitioners, and public officials from around the world and across disciplines came together to explore the interdependence of micronutrient nutrition and the resilience of individuals, communities, and systems, in the context of a world where global crises are the new normal. More specifically, the Conference aimed to: - Better understand the role of micronutrients in improving resilience and consider potential approaches to exploiting this role so that individuals, households, and communities can achieve greater resilience in a world of shocks. - Offer an opportunity to rethink and establish a compelling and evidence-based agenda on the interdependence of nutrition and resilience, with a gender-responsive focus. - Propose a research agenda that can advance understanding of nutrition and resilience, support cost-effective micronutrient interventions, and accelerate progress toward global nutrition and broader development goals. The program consisted of 9 plenary sessions, 39 concurrent and 46 sponsored sessions, and 677 poster presentations which resulted in 148 hours of recorded content. At the closing ceremony themed, "A Road to Resilience," the Forum issued a Way Forward Statement. This evidence-based policy tool aims to support the efforts of advocates and civil society stakeholders as they urge funders, policymakers, and leaders to increase investments in nutrition interventions during significant global events such as the upcoming Nutrition for Growth Summit in Paris in March 2025. |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc | 0 | The Micronutrient Data Innovation Alliance (DInA) has made significant progress in 2023, especially in providing support to national actors. DInA provided grants to teams in Colombia, Ethiopia, India, Malawi and Sierra Leone, each addressing a critical aspect along the micronutrient data value chain. Also, DInA and the Learning Network on Nutrition Surveillance (LeNNS) agreed to collaborate to co-organize an African regional meeting on issues around anemia data. The preparations for this meeting started in October 2023, whereas the meeting itself took place end of July 2024 in Nairobi. In 2023, DInA has also successfully integrated the Global Fortification Data Exchange (GFDx), ensuring the coordination and planning with its partners, the Flour Fortification Initiative (FFI), the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), and the Iodine Global Network (IGN). GFDx will especially concentrate on enhancing national stakeholders' utilization of the data platform. To fill the gap in micronutrient biomarker data, DInA initiated the development of approaches to model vitamin and mineral deficiency (VMD) prevalence using proxy measures. As a first step available data sources are compiled by country, year, and type of data availability for all countries within West Africa and for two additional micronutrient data-rich countries (Ethiopia and Bangladesh) for external model validation. To amplify the impact of the online micronutrient lexicon, DInA submitted a paper to PLOS ONE and expanded the lexicon with regulatory terms. The updated lexicon will form the foundation of the glossary for the WHO's updated Guidelines on Food Fortification with Micronutrients - the ange Book', to which DInA contributes. In addition, DInA contributes by writing two chapters for an updated compendium on Univeral Salt Iodization which will be published by UNICEF in September 2024. |

The MMS-TAG has been leading significant efforts to strengthen the evidence base for MMS by executing or updating systematic reviews and providing answers to important questions raised by multiple stakeholders. Key 2023 outputs include the Interim Guidance for Concurrent Antenatal Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation and Anemia Treatment in Pregnant Women, a brief on 'MMS as the best investment', a policy brief on "MMS in humanitarian settings an updated Frequently Asked Questions document. Another highlight of the year was the inaugural Africa MMS Meeting, hosted in partnership with the African Union in Addis Ababa. This landmark event fostered meaningful relationships with stakeholders from 13 countries, particularly with representatives from Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Kenya among others. Experts and decision-makers in these countries now regard HMHB as a trusted, evidence-based partner for their technical inquiries and strategic advice. The high-quality, evidence-based outputs and robust technical guidance have solidified HMHB's reputation as a credible, technical, and scientific authority within the global nutrition community. The Report highlighted stories of hope, lessons learned, and recommended policy actions to safeguard the nutrition of vulnerable populations before, during, and after crises. |

These participants, representing diverse expertise in nutrition, food systems, policy, and business, proposed thirteen recommendations across four core areas, including six priority actions to be urgently implemented. |
