To invest in better lives for people with neurodegenerative diseases, in adira's early years, we will focus principally, though not exclusively, on five neurodegenerative diseases: als, alzheimer's and related dementias, huntington's disease, multiple sclerosis, and parkinson's disease. At adira we accelerate the design and funding of better, more integrated help for people who need it now. We assemble a handful of diseases that struggle with many of the same big things. We take them out of isolation where they're defined not by their diagnosis but by their struggle. From a bird's-eye view, we see the common themes and trends. We speak with people going through this journey to design better programs "with" them, not just "for" them. Then we fund those bigger, common problems with which they say they need the most help. Some examples of our work to date focus on caregiving, navigation of different services, disability, equity, measurements for quality of life, and mental health.

“Adira engages fractional chief financial officer cfo consultants to serve the financial management function, including review of business practices and financial controls in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Adira will look to make that job function permanent and brought in-house as our needs and capacity demands. “Adira Foundation made significant, consequential impact before entering dissolution at the end of 2022. During the short time we were active, we completed 5 special projects, awarded 20 grants, held 3 neurodegenerative disease congress events, assessed fifty quality of life measurement tools, hosted numerous listening and learning events, and issued substantive reports, all culminating in our final ND Congress Report as well as our Blueprint for Action. Both of these reports as well as details on all of our activities can be found on our legacy website: https://adirafoundation.org SINCE ITS FOUNDING, ADIRA FOUNDATION AIMED TO BUILD AND FUND BETTER AND MORE RESPONSIVE SERVICES, CO-DESIGNED FROM THE PATIENT/CAREGIVER POINT-OF-VIEW. WE did that THAT THROUGH MULTIPLE LISTENING AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES, BUT ALSO IN FUNDING NON-PROFITS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES IN BOTH DIRECT AWARDS AND COMPETITIVE GRANTS. FROM $100,000 IN ROUND 1 TO $260,000 IN ROUND 2, ADIRAS 2021 ACTIVE PROGRAM YEAR CONTINUES TO GROW BY INVESTING IN NON-PROFITS. In 2022, we implemented a third round of competitive grantmaking on three key topics: simplifying clinical research, preparing for financial threats, and helping people thrive again. This third round of $281,521 WAS FUNDED IN EARLY 2022. SIMPLY PUT, WE ASKed PEOPLE WHAT THEY STILL NEED BUT ARENT GETTING, AND WE ASKed WHAT BETTER HELP WOULD LOOK LIKE. THEN WE FUNDed THOSE THINGS MOST IMPORTANT TO THEM, AND IN THE WAYS THEY WANT TO SEE IT. WE Took ON THOSE COMMON, CROSS-CUTTING ISSUES THAT APPEAR TOO BIG FOR ANYONE TO OWN, SUCH AS CAREGIVING, MENTAL HEALTH, NAVIGATION OF SERVICES, MAKING CLINICAL RESEARCH EASIER, DISABILITY, LIFE AFTER LEAVING THE WORKFORCE, AND SIMILAR ISSUES. Our aim for the future had been to build Round 4 and other activities by bringing patients and caregivers with lived expertise in congress with those with career expertise to design better help together. We did this through three ND Congress events throughout 2022. Unfortunately, we were forced to close at the end of the year before being able to action a Round 4 of competitive grants.
