IRS990/Desc0The year of 2021 was a growth year for Higher Ed Works.(The Organization.)The Organization experienced growth in its audience, influence and financial stability, despite the ongoing challenges from the COVID -19 pandemic. The publication of the series entitled NURSING EDUCATION hit a nerve with the public.In the midst of the pandemic,nurses finally received the appreciation they have deserved for decades.The Organization pointed out that there is no shortage of of people who want to be nurses and no shortage of entities who want to hire nurses.There is a shortage of nursing instructors/faculty , because nursing graduates often receive higher compensation than do nursing faculty, immediately following graduation.The Organization projected 180,000 engagements with readers/viewers as a result of the nursing series .Instead, The Organization had 643,000 engagements as the audience circulated the content to friends and family, and many viewed the videos multiple times.Other media outlets began to include compensation of nurses along with compensation of teachers in their coverage of deliberations over the state budget. The followers of The Organization on social media grew to 123,405 while the newsletter subscibers subsided to 179,830, for a total direct audiance of more than 300,000.That audiance grows further when the Organization advertises its content.In sum, The Organization reached more than 2.4 million people in 2021. Toward the end of 2021, there was a dramatic increase in engagement with the audience of The Organization.The open rates on the newsletter of The Organization went from the 8% to 10% range to 18% or more.The Organization had a 43% increase in website traffic and a 62% increase in website visitors, as compared to 2020. Unlike many young nonprofits, The Organization has benefited from steady support from individual donors and is working to expand foundation support.The organization hopes to add to its development staff and content providers in 2022. In late 2021, The Organization began conducting interviewes and accumilating content to launch another series on the many ways the 58 Community Colleges in North Carolina serve their communities and the local economy.The Community Colleges are underappreciated by the public and the North Carolina Legislature. The Organization curtailed spending during the pandemic and its expenditures were $136,580 under budget in 2021.As a result, The Organization ended the year with more than $500,000 cash on hand.
