Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The primary exempt purpose of CAG is to provide the public, policy makers and others with full, accurate and easily understood analyses of the realities affecting the sustainability of our nation's public finance and social insurance programs.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Public Outreach: CAG has produced videos and white papers on healthcare financing and delivery challenges. These have been shared with the general public via the CAG website. These materials are intended to benefit actuaries, health care providers, regulators and the general public. In 2022, the website was redesigned and relaunched, with the goal of being more accessible by and useful to CAG's public constituencies. In 2023, the organization continued its emphasis on improving the effectiveness of the website, placing numerous additional materials onto the site to be accessible to the public.$0$48,346
Financial and actuarial modeling: CAG continued the further development in 2023 of a complex healthcare model for testing healthcare programs and proposals. The model is being developed under continuous review by actuaries and other healthcare professionals. This effort should benefit those tasked with developing, managing and overseeing the nation's healthcare programs and ultimately all participants in these programs.$0$17,024
Cooperation with other organizations with related interests: During 2023 CAG engaged in numerous (virtual) meetings and conversations with individuals and organizations sharing common interests with CAG. The goals of these efforts include exploring ways we can work together with these organizations in furtherance of our mutual objectives, improving our own in-depth understanding of the issues involved in order to improve our work in the areas noted above, seeking critiques of our work products in order to improve them, and to impart knowledge to these individuals and organizations that can in turn benefit them and their constituencies.$0$13,995

IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt0The organization's public support percentage for the five-year period ending 12/31/2023 and 12/31/2022 is 17.18% and 17.89%, respectively. The public support is more than the 10% minimum amount of public support required in Regulation 1.170A-9(f)(3)(i). In the prior 24 months, the organization had undertaken a number of new initiatives to attract public support from a variety of public sources. These include: producing and posting to our website a series of videos, designed to engage the public, in which panels of experts discuss the problems and issues with American healthcare and what can be done to improve the decision-making that so directly affects our health care, our financing and our well-being; hosting a series of live webinars inviting members of the general public to engage in conversations centered around these aforementioned videos and the issues and opportunities identified therein; forming new committees of the Board to focus specifically on certain areas we believe may be of particular interest to important subsets of the general public, including a Rural Committee focused on promoting further insight into the implications of health policy on rural constituencies and stakeholders, a Mindset Committee considering the changes that could result from bottom-up shifts in the mindset regarding healthcare, health insurance and subsidies and a Social Insurance and Public Financing Committee seeking to provide further illumination and understanding of the facts affecting the nation's social insurance and public finance programs. Every one of these aforementioned initiatives is specifically intended to be of interest to and deepen our engagement with certain subsets of the general public with the intent of translating the increased engagement and interest into additional contributors to our various initiatives. Most recently, members of the Rural Committee have been active in initiatives underway in the state of Wisconsin aimed at responding to immediate challenges to healthcare access in certain rural Wisconsin communities and helping to preserve access to quality care in these communities. Additionally, our website was completely redesigned and relaunched in 2022 with the intent of making it more accessible and interesting to the general public, further encouraging additional engagement and, ultimately, additional contributions. We anticipate that in the future, we will add a "Donate" button to the website, providing an easy means for any website visitor to donate directly to the organization. In 2023, we developed a key-contact list of more than 200 persons we believe may have interest in supporting our activities. We plan to begin periodic outreach to these individuals, updating them on our activities and accomplishments, thereby increasing the likelihood that these persons may contribute to the organization. As we gain experience and have success with these new initiatives, we expect the organization will continue to build a broad range of funding sources, increasing its percentage of public support. We do not anticipate that public support will fall below current levels. We added new donors to the organization in three of the prior four years, and our objective is to continue to identify additional donors in the future. The Board of Directors is comprised of active and retired professionals with deep knowledge about, and a personal interest in, providing both the public as well as policymakers with easily understood analysis of the issues affecting the sustainability of our nation's public finances and social insurance programs. The Board consists of three retired actuaries, an actuary who earned her PHD in health policy and management, an actively employed actuary with particular experience and expertise in the area of pharmacy benefits and an MD whose recent professional focus has been in the area of rural health care policy. The Board relies on this depth and breadth of experience to inform the analysis of issue
