Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The primary exempt purpose of CAG is to provide the public, policy makers and others with full, accurate and easily understood analyses of the realities affecting the sustainability of our nation's public finance and social insurance programs.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Public Outreach: CAG has produced videos and white papers on healthcare financing and delivery challenges. These have been shared with the general public via the CAG website. These materials are intended to benefit actuaries, health care providers, regulators and the general public. In 2022, the website was redesigned and relaunched, with the goal of being more accessible by and useful to CAG's public constituencies. In 2024, the organization continued its emphasis on improving the effectiveness of the website, placing numerous additional materials onto the site to be accessible to the public.$0$48,129
Financial and actuarial modeling: CAG continued the further development in 202 of a complex healthcare model for testing healthcare programs and proposals. The model is being developed under continuous review by actuaries and other healthcare professionals. This effort should benefit those tasked with developing, managing and overseeing the nation's healthcare programs and ultimately all participants in these programs. In 2024 plans were made for a series of enhancements to the model, including the ability to analyze state or local geographic areas and to include major elements beyond healthcare, including Social Security. In 2024 an outside organization was engaged to provide specifications and estimate costs to significantly upgrade the performance of the model, including being able to turn around requests for information in days instead of months, and to incorporate the enhancements noted above.$25,000$41,891
Cooperation with other organizations with related interests: During 2024 CAG engaged in numerous meetings and conversations with individuals and organizations sharing common interests with CAG. The goals of these efforts include exploring ways we can work together with these organizations in furtherance of our mutual objectives, improving our own in-depth understanding of the issues involved in order to improve our work in the areas noted above, seeking critiques of our work products in order to improve them, and to impart knowledge to these individuals and organizations that can in turn benefit them and their constituencies.$0$13,891

IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt0The organization's public support percentage for the five-year period ending 12/31/2024 and 12/31/2023 is 15.88% and 17.18%, respectively. The public support is more than the 10% minimum amount of public support required in Regulation 1.170A-9(f)(3)(i). In the prior 24 months, the organization has pursued a number of initiatives to attract public support from a variety of public sources. These include: producing and posting to our website a series of videos, articles and papers, designed to engage the public, in which experts discuss or write about the problems and issues with American healthcare, Social Security and other social insurance and publicly financed programs. The website information addresses what can be done to improve the decision-making that so directly affects our health care, our financial security and our well-being. Committees of the Board focus specifically on certain areas we believe may be of particular interest to important subsets of the general public, including a Rural Committee focused on promoting further insight into the implications of health policy on rural constituencies and stakeholders, a Mindset Committee considering the changes that could result from bottom-up shifts in the mindset regarding healthcare, health insurance and subsidies and a Social Insurance and Public Financing Committee seeking to provide further illumination and understanding of the facts affecting the nation's social insurance and public finance programs. Every one of these aforementioned initiatives is specifically intended to be of interest to and deepen our engagement with certain subsets of the general public with the intent of translating the increased engagement and interest into additional contributors to our various initiatives. Additionally, the organization's website was completely redesigned and relaunched in 2022 with the intent of making it more accessible and interesting to the general public, further encouraging additional engagement and ultimately additional contributions. Each year since then, the organization has continued to work to improve the look, feel and content of the Website to increase the attractiveness and interest of the site to the general public. In 2024, the organization formed a Website and Communications committee comprised of Board members and outside experts. The Website and Communications committee focuses on assuring that both the content as well as the look and feel of the website effectively present the organization's messages and information in ways that will be easily accessed and easily understood by the public and potential donors and partners. The Website and Communications Committee is working on further reformatting of the website and is preparing further updates to website content consistent with these objectives. In 2024, the organization also formed a Fundraising Committee, comprised of Board members and outside experts. The charge of this committee is specifically to improve the effectiveness of the organization's fundraising activities and broaden the base of donors. There are several specific tracks being pursued by the Fundraising Committee: a list of potential individual and corporate donors has been compiled and a contact management system has been established as we prepare to systematically reach out to these potential donors; we are in the early stages of planning an annual fundraising event and have recruited as a member of the Fundraising Committee an individual who has 40 years of experience conducting such an event; we are making plans to leverage the success of the rural healthcare initiative that is being conducting in Wisconsin by approaching parties in other states, seeking partners and funds to initiate similar initiatives in those states. As we gain experience and have success with these new initiatives, we expect the organization will build a broad range of funding sources, increasing its percentage of public support. We do not anticipate that public sup
