Form 990, Part III, Line 4D: Other Program Services Description

OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Summer STEM Circles (a.k.a. Summer Camps), Math Programs, Native American Program $27,891Our Summer camps and STEM Circles were back in person. We offered 8 sessions of weekly camps with 6 unique themes over the span of 6 weeks: Designing & Building Drones Camp, Making a Miniaturized Chemical Sensor, Building Motion Sensors with Arduino, STEAM All Around Us, App Design for Social Justice and Building Smart Greenhouses with Arduino. 87 students in 5th-12th grades attended the camps, for a total of 2,610 contact hours. Every camp session included a students project showcase and presentations on Fridays for families and community members, during which students practiced their public speaking skills and increased their families engagement with STEM. At the App Design for Social Justice Camp, students presented their projects to Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez. They later submitted their projects to the Congressional App Challenge, and one student ended up winning 3rd place in our district. We brought the Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival back in-person. 67 students from Carlos F. Vigil Middle School in Espaola attended and improved their attitudes towards math by playing games and solving puzzles with mathematicians and volunteers from Los Alamos National Laboratory. Students explored different math activities at will. We delivered a total of 268 contact hours of mathematics learning. In addition, we developed a new program this year specifically for the Santa Fe Indian School, customizing the offering from our established programs, starting with a summer camp building laser harps.

IRS990/Desc0STEM Scaffold Santa Fe @ Middle and High Schools ($37,399)This program (back in person) provides mentors to guide middle school and high school students through STEM projects that are culturally and locally relevant. Our STEM Scaffold Santa Fe in-school program during 2021-2022 was at six schools. All students built and coded Smart One-Lane Bridge projects and impacted 271 students at four schools in Santa Fe and Espanola, namely Capital High School, Espanola Valley High School, Desert Sage Academy, and Santa Fe Indian School. We also provided service-learning opportunities to 10 students from the MASTERS Program charter school through this program. We also provided kits and teacher training to El Camino Real Academy to help teachers implement the curriculum in all of the 8th grade classrooms, reaching about 80 more students. This program delivered a total of 3372 contact hours of project-based, mentor-led education. Through this program, we hired 8 college student mentors, providing them with training and work experience. This supports the secondary goal for this program: increase confidence in students' STEM skills and reinforce their resolve to finish their degrees.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0STEM Pathways for Girls ($35,775)An inspiring monthly program dedicated for girls and nonbinary students in 5th-8th grade. We hosted our annual fall STEM Pathways for Girls Conference in a hybrid format due to COVID-19 restrictions, with hands-on workshops led by female STEM professionals and two keynote speeches streamed live on YouTube. 69 girls attended 2 workshops each, all led by one of 17 prominent women in STEM fields who volunteered their time and expertise for the conference. The conference was the first large event we held in person after we went virtual in 2020, but despite the logistical challenges posed by COVID restrictions it was a success. The conference was followed by 4 monthly workshops of 2 hours each. For the first time ever this year, we also helped plan and host a second STEM conference for girls, collaborating with GEAR UP New Mexico. The conference was held in Albuquerque, and 88 girls from schools all over Northern New Mexico were able to experience eight STEM Santa Fes hands-on workshops, a STEAM/College Fair and a STEM Panel consisting of women studying or working in STEM.This program delivered a total of 1012 contact hours of project-based, mentor-led education. In addition, an Aviation and Aerospace one-week summer camp for girls was being planned for summer 2022.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Summer STEM Circles (a.k.a.
