| IN JULY 2017, WE LAUNCHED A MULTI-YEAR, MULTI-PHASE INITIATIVE TO TRANSFORM THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CHESTER UPLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT (CUSD). A GROWING BODY OF WORK BY GAP INTERNATIONAL, A GLOBAL CONSULTING FIRM WITH A 40-YEAR TRACK RECORD OF ORGANIZATIONAL TRANSFORMATION, SHOWS THAT THE CULTURE AND PERFORMANCE OF ANY ORGANIZATION IS SHAPED BY ITS LEADERSHIP. AS SUCH, OUR INITIAL PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON INVESTING IN THE SUPERINTENDENT, ADMINISTRATION, PRINCIPALS, AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS. OVER 3,800 FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS ARE AFFECTED IN 2019, WE CONTINUED OUR BREAKTHROUGH MINDSET CURRICULUM WITH MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS AND STAFF AND EXPANDED IT TO INCLUDE TEACHERS AND STAFF AT CHESTER'S STEM ACADEMY. WE ARE CONTINUING TO RECORD INDICATORS OF POSITIVE SHIFTS IN THE CULTURE AND PERFORMANCE. MAJOR CUSD ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE: THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR STARTED OFF WITH THE SCHOOL FULLY STAFFED. TEACHER ATTENDANCE HAS BEEN OVER 90%. BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT WENT FROM APPROXIMATELY 30 PARENTS IN ATTENDANCE TO 84 PARENTS. THERE WAS COMMUNITY REPRESENTATION AND ENGAGEMENT AS WELL. A MAJORITY OF TOBY FARMS STUDENTS WENT ON A FIELD TRIP FOR THE FIRST TIME TO SEE THE MOVIE "HARRIET." THIS WAS BASED ON A POSITIVE BEHAVIOR REWARD. TEACHERS ARE TAKING ON BIGGER OUTCOMES TO DIRECTLY IMPACT STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND PSSA SCORES. FOR EXAMPLE, THE MUSIC TEACHER IS TARGETING PSSA VOCABULARY IN HER CLASSES. THE SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS ARE TARGETING GRAPH LITERACY TO ENHANCE BOTH MATH AND ELA COMPREHENSION. ALL TEACHERS ARE WORKING ON CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT IN STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT, SHARING BEST PRACTICES.DURING THE SUMMER SESSIONS, THE MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS TOOK ON THE FOLLOWING PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES TO SUPPORT THEIR STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY. IN CREATING THESE, THEY THOUGHT THROUGH HOW THEY WOULD HAVE "EVERY STUDENT AND EVERY ADULT FEEL CARED FOR, VALUED, AND SUPPORTED EVERY HOUR OF EVERY DAY." THEY HAD MURALS PAINTED IN THE HALLWAYS AND STENCILING DONE IN THE BATHROOMS WITH INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES. FLOWERS WERE PLANTED OUTSIDE AND THE BULLETIN BOARDS WERE UPDATED. NEW LIBRARYO THE SCHOOL HAD NOT HAD A LIBRARY. THE TEACHERS CAME TOGETHER AND CREATED ONE FROM DONATED BOOKS, SHELVES, AND BEANBAG CHAIRS. THE LIBRARY IS NOW AN ACADEMIC REWARD FOR STUDENT POSITIVE BEHAVIOR. SCHOOL STOREO THERE IS NOW A SCHOOL STORE CART AVAILABLE FOR THE STUDENTS TO PURCHASE ESSENTIAL ITEMS. SCHOOL PICTURESO THERE WAS NO PLAN FOR SCHOOL PICTURES PRIOR TO THIS AND NOW SCHOOL PICTURES HAVE BEEN TAKEN.
