IRS990/Desc0Capital Project Implementation: In 2019, we were able to complete Phase 2 of the Play Chastain Capital Campaign. The Conservancy celebrated the installation and ribbon cutting of the Shade Structures, Toddle Play Equipment, Sensory Musical Instruments, Sensory Tunnel and added much needed seating areas including benches and the Puzzle Play benches. In addition, we were able to install two bocce ball courts along the playground lawn. This installation was an effort to provide passive recreational activities for seniors. Finally, we winterized all water fountains at Chastain Park to ensure fresh water was available to all users and pets throughout the year.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Invasive Plant Removal: We received a $17k Georgia Power Foundation grant in an effort to remove invasive plants from the Park. The purpose of the project was to expand passive greenspace availability throughout the Park. To date, the project has opened up close to 20 acres of passive greenspace and increased sightlines across the Park - a security measure. We have complemented these funds through various volunteer projects. Close to 500 volunteers have participated in invasive plant removal efforts at Hamburger Pond, the Master Grill, American Legion and Northwoods.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Restoration: In 2019, we worked to restore the historic stairs and grills throughout the Northwoods. This project was completed through our volunteer program and revealed more than 500 historic granite steps build by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1940s.We launched a capital campaign exploration for the replacement of the Quonset Hut site which burned down on January 4, 2019. The campaign verbally received pledges of $450,000. However, the Conservancy was not able to receive approval to improve the access road to the site - a requirement for the proposed campaign.
