See schedule ob. Exhibitions interpretive exhibits in the physical museum include:- revolution: the first 2000 years of computingeveryone uses computers. Few know the story of how they came to be. Revolution, the museum's signature exhibition, chronicles the evolution and impact of modern computing from the abacus to the smart phone. This 25,000 sq. Ft multimedia experience is a technological wonderland that immerses visitors in the sights, sounds, and stories of the computer revolution. Revolution is designed with 19 galleries, each with an icon artifact that reflects the theme of the gallery.- babbage difference engine no. 2: the story of the first computer pioneercharles babbage (1791-1871) designed the first modern programmable computer -- complete with a printer -- but he failed to build it. Engineers at the london science museum finally built the first working babbage engine in 2002. The babbage difference engine no. 2 on display at the museum has 8,000 parts, weighs five tons and measures 11 feet in length.going places: google maps with street viewsince 2007, google maps with street view has transformed our ideas about going places, from faraway lands to a restaurant across town. Visitors to this temporary exhibition sit inside a street view car, ride a street view trike, hear behind the scenes stories from the google street view team and learn about vintage street views, including the revolutionary aspen movie map project from 1978.- pdp-1: the mouse that roareddigital equipment corporation's (dec) pdp-1 was the first commercial computer designed to interact with a single user. The museum's restoration team brought the pdp-1 back to working condition. They retrieved data from its main memory, restored all the peripherals and loaded the machine with vintage games, including spacewar!the museum also features a significant online presence:the museum offers a rich multimedia experience to more than 2.0 million visitors annually through its website at www.computerhistory.org. The website features a wide variety of content related to the history of computing, the impact of computing on society and the future of innovation. Online exhibits such as "revolution," "visible storage online," "the babbage engine," and "mastering the game" complement the museum's physical exhibits. Other web exhibits such as "the silicon engine," "selling the computer revolution," "this day in history," and "the timeline of computer history" are available only through the internet and bring the museum to virtual visitors around the world. The museum's vast collection's catalog is now fully indexed and searchable to the item level through the website's "catalog search" feature, providing visitors, students and researchers unparalleled access to the museum's unique storehouse of artifacts and information. In addition, the museum has extended its web presence onto youtube with a computer history channel bringing more than 170 episodes of historic material and museum lectures trending towards 1 million visitors annually at www.youtube.com/computerhistory.

Educationthe museum enhances its exhibitions through a variety of educational activities, allowing visitors to learn about the people and stories behind the innovations, and to think about them in terms of their impact on the human experience in the past, present, and future.among the comprehensive set of education programs are:docent tours: interactive, inquiry-based discussions offered to the general public 10 times weekly, with additional tours available for schools and private groups on request. In 2012, 175 such additional, special tours were offered to a total of approximately 4652 visitors. Of these, approximately 110 groups (2964 visitors) attended docent-led tours and 65 groups (1429 visitors) attended self-guided tours. Students in grades 3 through 12 can also come to the museum for interactive hands-on workshops that are developmentally appropriate, geared to the curricula and learning needs of specific age groups, and aligned with california state content standards in a wide range of disciplines. In 2012, we offered 65 workshops to approximately 259 students.artifact demonstrations: docent-led demonstrations of, and interactive discussions about, the babbage difference engine and the dec pdp-1, providing visitors with first-hand experience of the operation of thesehistoric objects. In 2012, 9000 visitors participated in babbage engine demonstrations, and 1500 in demonstrations of the pdp-1.2012 also saw the expansion of our signature program, "get invested: case studies in innovation." "get invested" is our inquiry-based, technology driven, stem+ infused program that exposes underserved high school students to creative stem problem-solving with multi-media applications and multi-modality learning approaches. It is delivered both as a semester-long course which takes place at the museum, in classrooms, and online, and as a one-time-only two-hour workshop at the museum. Since its inception, "get invested" has served over 165 students and over 9 teachers. In 2012, 70 students and two teachers took part in the extended program; participants came from two schools, one in silicon valley and one in mexico."get invested" is designed to enhance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (stem) learning by engaging students in design-based learning that encourages creativity, problem-solving, historical inquiry, and entrepreneurial thinking, all with a technology focus.in 2012, the museum continued its outreach to local low-income students, working with "beyond the bell," a california proposition 49-funded after-school program for k-8 students in the mountain view whisman school district. Students in beyond the bell took part in our three-part visit program, "investigate innovation." "investigate innovation" uses the museum's collection to teach primary school students how to gain information from authentic artifacts and communicate their knowledge to others. In 2012, 96 students participated from beyond the bell; an additional 51 came from a different local school district. All of our school programs build on state educational content standards. Students interact with objects from the museum's permanent collection and with museum staff members through both the museum's physical and virtual resources. Students develop critical skills for success in the 21st century, including critical thinking, oral and written communication expertise, and collaboration. At the same time, they learn and apply concepts from science, technology, engineering, and math in the context of computer history. As one expression of the museum's mission to inspire innovation and creativity in the next generation of computer users and innovators, the museum presents and participates in events for families and student groups. In 2012, this included docent demonstrations of museum artifacts at the at&t park discovery day as part of the bay area science festival, and at a science festival at a local elementary school.
