Activity 2

Bicycle Education - A core part of our mission is to increase bicyclist safety. We conduct safety classes for both children and adults. Throughout 2012 we conducted a program of classroom and on-bike safety instruction that reached almost 3500 children in schools in the cities of Santa Clara, East Palo Alto, Belmont, Redwood City and Millbrae.

Activity 3

Bike to Work Day - Each May, SVBC hosts Bike to Work Day which is a Bay Area wide celebration of bicycle commuting with the purpose of publicizing bicycling to work as a commute option and to encourage people to try it out. "Energizer" stations are set up by employers and volunteers throughout Silicon Valley to provide participating cyclists with goodie bags and refreshments during their ride to work. We also sponsor the "Team Bike Challenge" and the "Company Bike Challenge", competitions that encourage participants to bike to work during the month. 2012 participation in Bike to Work Day increased 19% in Santa Clara County and 30% in San Mateo County over the previous year. In addition to coordinating all event logistics, SVBC leverages the energy of the event through press conferences and other media to focus public attention on the benefits of bicycling.
