Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11

A copy of the form 990 is reviewed and approved by the executive director and business manager. Once the form 990 is approved, the final copy is disseminated to the board of directors.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Each director, principal officer and member of the committee shall annually sign a statement which affirms they received a copy, read and understand and comply with the organization's conflict of interest policy.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The executive director sets compensation rates at least annually and the board of trustees reviews the pay rate and ranges annually.

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part XII, Line 2C

The organization's process for overseeing the audit or review of the financial statements and the selection of an independent accountant has not changed from prior years.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization does not believe it has unrelated business income to be reported for tax purposes. In addition, the organization believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken to date and, therefore, has no related income tax due for all years where the statute of limitations remains open, which is generally three years for federal filings and four years for california filings.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0HIGH SCHOOL ROADMAP TO INDEPENDENCE: ALTHOUGH FOSTER YOUTH ARE IN DIRE NEED OF EDUCATION INTERVENTION SERVICES, THEY LACK NATURAL SUPPORTS AND ARE NOT TYPICALLY GIVEN ACCESS TO APPROPRIATE RESOURCES. A MAJOR CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IS THAT SOCIAL WORKERS, FOSTER PARENTS, THE EDUCATION COMMUNITY, AND COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS GENERALLY DO NOT POSSESS THE ADEQUATE TRAINING AND TOOLS, OR ACCURATE INFORMATION ABOUT FOSTER YOUTHS' EDUCATIONAL NEEDS, TO EFFECTIVELY ADVOCATE ON THEIR BEHALF. OUR HIGH SCHOOL ROADMAP TO INDEPENDENCE ("ROADMAP") IS COMPRISED OF TWO PROGRAMS: EMERGING SCHOLARS AND THE SUMMER SCHOOL CREDIT RECOVERY PROGRAM. THROUGH THE ROADMAP THE FUND PROVIDES HIGHLY INDIVIDUALIZED CRITICAL EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT, GUIDANCE AND ADVOCACY FOCUSING ON IMMEDIATE NEEDS, WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY (SEE SCHEDULE O)HIGH SCHOOL ROADMAP TO INDEPENDENCE (CONTINUED): DEVELOPING LONG TERM PLANS TO ENSURE A MORE STABLE, PREDICTABLE AND SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION TO ADULTHOOD AND INDEPENDENCE. THE ROADMAP PROGRAMS WERE CREATED BOTH TO AMELIORATE FOSTER YOUTHS' EDUCATIONAL AND LIFE OUTCOMES, AND TO TRAIN FUTURE SOCIAL WORKERS ABOUT THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF THIS POPULATION.
