Mission

To provide education, implement and fund projects in accordance with National and California Fire Plans, mobilize citizens and agencies to reduce losses from wildfires, exchange information and foster fire prevention and fire safety within the County of Monterey.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
PG&E awarded a grant in the amount of $20,000 for Robles del Rio, Carmel Valley, Monterey County, CA. The funds were to be used as a fuel break to protect PG&E lines. The work reduced existing fuel loads to safer levels along roads, providing the additional benefit of insuring safer ingress/egress along the community roads for both firefighter access and resident evacuations. There are approximately 773 residents in the community. The grant was successfully completed and all $20,000 was expended.$20,000-
FSCMC received a grant opportunity from Listos CA, to educate communities across the state to boost resiliency, provide new accessible in-language information and advance a new culture of disaster preparedness. The grant was sub-contracted through CERV (Community Emergency Response Volunteers). FSCMC was awarded $20,000 and initiated a collaborative to address key vulnerable audiences; homeowners, seniors and disabled-seniors, and their support system, to provide a guide to prepare to protect lives, property and the environment from the threat of wildfire. An online, workshop "Wildfire And You" was developed, with closed captioning, and providing the narrative translated into Spanish. There were 86 registered for the program. Listos California's "Merit" system tracked the number of participants for the entire project. $16,110 was expended for the program.$16,110-
In 2019, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) awarded Fire Safe Council For Monterey two grants to address hazardous fuel loads within 1,000 feet of a PG&E facility and to promote safe ingress and egress. Robles del Rio, a residential community in Carmel Valley, CA, to address hazardous fuels along roads to increase safe ingress and egress for firefighters and residents alike in the amount of $25.000: and North County Fire, north Monterey County, focusing on reducing flammable fuels along various roads within the Fire District, in the amount of $25,000.$11,750-
Community Foundation of Monterey County$6,100-
California Fire Safe Council (CFSC) awarded a grant in the amount of $49,975 to Fire Safe Council For Monterey, for a project in the Carmel Views Community Association, for hazardous fuel reduction within the common areas of the Association. Approximately 78 acres will be treated to reduce hazardous fuel to a manageable level and build defensible fuel breaks between the common areas and the residences. An education component is include in the project. The project has been extended to March 2021 due to difficulties imposed by Covid-19.$4,666-
