Mission

To provide education, implement and fund projects in accordance with National and California Fire Plans, mobilize citizens and agencies to reduce losses from wildfires, exchange information and foster fire prevention and fire safety within the County of Monterey.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) awarded a SRAFPF Grant Project in the amount of $156,100 to Fire Safe Council of Monterey County for the Carmel Highlands Foothill Fuel Reduction Project located in Carmel Highlands community, in Monterey County. There are 782 habitable structures in the greater area. The project will remove light flashy fuels, brush and hazard trees to reduce the fuel loading along the foothills above the Carmel Highlands and adjacent Soberanes Fire burn area (July 2016), which impacted the Carmel Highlands. The hazardous fuel loads consisting of dead and dying trees and accumulations of hazardous brush pose both a health and safety risk to homeowners and emergency personnel. The grant will be completed in March 2022.-$156,100
The Governor's Declaration of a Drought Emergency enabled Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) to fund grants through California Fire Safe Councils to address hazardous fuel reduction projects throughout California. Fire Safe Council of Monterey County applied for and was awarded a grant in the amount of $66,666 for a fuel reduction grant focusing on reducing fuels along roadways (ingress and egress) in the Tassajara/Cachagua area of Carmel Valley.$31,250$66,666
The Governor's Declaration of a Drought Emergency enabled Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) to fund grants through California Fire Safe Councils to address hazardous fuel reduction projects throughout California. Fire Safe Council of Monterey County applied for and was awarded a grant in the amount of $61,050 for, the Palo Colorado Safe Corridor Ingress/Egress Grant, focusing on reducing fuels along roadways. The grant was successfully completed on December 15, 2018, but due to the PG&E bankruptcy, final payment was not received until April 2019.$7,500$61,050
