Activity 2

Resource Referral Helpline and Website The Elisa Projects Resource Referral Helpline and website are free, nationwide resources that connect patients and their loved ones to vital information and support, as well as a referral database of eating disorder treatment facilities, health professionals psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, dietitians, etc., support groups, clinical trials, and financial assistance resources. Services are available online and via phone, email, and in-person visits. Staff and trained volunteers work with each client to identify options that best meet his or her unique needs. In 2011, The Elisa Project received and handled 419 resource and referral requests. A new website was launched in January 2010 that dramatically increased our ability to offer information and resources. A total of 23,096 individuals accessed information through our new website in 2011.

Activity 3

Professional Education Professionals from many disciplines play vital roles in the prevention, recognition, diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders. Partnering with UT Southwestern Medical Center, The Elisa Project co-sponsored the 11th Annual Symposium for the Prevention and Treatment of Eating Disorders for health professionals new to the eating disorder specialty as well as those already treating disorders. Community members are also enouraged to attend. Through its extensive network of contacts, noted experts such as Walter Kaye, MD, Director, University of California, San Diego Medical Center Ovidio Bermudez, MD, FAED, Medical Director, Eating Recovery Center, Denver, CO Stephanie Setliff, MD, Medical Director, Childrens Medical Center, Dallas, TX among others lead professional workshops that reached 402 people in 2011.
