Activity 2

CLIMBCLIMB is an after-school program for at-risk children ages 5-16 and one of the few FREE programs in the city of Dallas. The curriculum and activities used in CLIMB expose students to academics, the arts, technology, and values which foster motivation to succeed in all aspects of life. Currently, the program is offered at eight Dallas-area locations and serves more than 500 students.Family involvement is critical to ensure a child's success. Participation through CLIMB includes many parent meetings and Family Fun Nights, where families spend time together and stay involved. Wilkinson Center works to overcome the challenges that hinder students' academic and social development. We strive to have close relationships with our kids, their parents, and Dallas Independent School District teachers. Included in CLIMB: HOMEWORK AND TUTORING - Homework is top priority at CLIMB. Our team of dedicated volunteers and staff addresses the students' individual needs. The children receive one-on-one tutoring, homework assistance and have access to our Resource Reading Library.HEALTHYBody - A physical fitness and nutrition program. HEALTHYBody strives to instill healthy eating and fitness habits for life with the goal of reducing the incidence of obesity in children. ARTWORKS - Students have access to weekly creative development. SPECIAL EVENTS - Children have the opportunity to participate in events throughout the year including our annual Back-to-School Shoe Drive, which has provided more than 20,000 pairs of shoes to date, our annual Back-To-School Rally, Family Fun Night and a Holiday Toy Drive.

Activity 3

FOOD ASSISSTANCE and EMERGENCY SERVICESFor many, these are the first points of contact with the Center. Through our Food Pantry and other emergency services, we provide food, financial and other basic assistance, so that families can begin to use our independence-enhancing, educational programs. Wilkinson Center Food Assistance Program provides one week's supply of food, translating into more than 40,000 pounds of emergency food, to hungry Dallas families every month. Our "client-choice" model allows clients to choose their food according to needs and preferences, eliminating waste and increasing self-esteem. We serve individuals of all ages. Approximately one-half of our Food Pantry clients are children. Designated as a flagship agency by the North Texas Food Bank in 2009, our food pantry utilizes an innovative paperless registration and client tracking system that serves as a model for other similar agencies in the North Texas area.
