Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 2, Part V, Line 4

The foundation's endowment funds include both donor-restricted endowment funds and funds designated by the board of trustees to function as endowments and are classified and reported based on the existence or absence of donor-imposed restrictions. The foundation has adopted investment and spending policies for endowment assets that attempt to provide a predictable stream of funding to programs supported by its endowment while seeking to provide growth of these funds. Endowment assets include those assets of donor-restricted funds that the foundation must hold in perpetuity or for a donor-specified period as well as board-designated funds. The foundation has a policy of appropriating for distribution each year 4.5% of the average annual endowment fund value over the preceding three years, in addition to appropriations for investment expense. The board decides each year that the percentage is prudent based on economic conditions and may decide to adjust the distribution to a lesser amount. In establishing this policy, the foundation considered the long-term expected return on its endowment. Accordingly, over the long term, the foundation expects the current spending policy to allow its endowment to grow over time.

THE PUBLIC DONATIONS RECEIVED FROM ENDOWMENT CAMPAIGNS AND GENERAL FUNDRAISING HAVE BEEN PRUDENTLY MANAGED AND CAREFULLY SPENT WHICH HAS ENABLED INVESTMENT HOLDINGS AND, CONSEQUENTLY, INVESTMENT INCOME TO INCREASE OVER TIME. 2.SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1981, THE UCROSS FOUNDATION HAS RECEIVED CONTRIBUTIONS FROM NUMEROUS GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES, CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS, AND INDIVIDUALS. THE NUMBER OF GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES, CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE CONTRIBUTED FOR THE YEARS 2013 THROUGH 2017 IS 1,591. DURING THE YEARS 2013 THROUGH 2017, THE ORGANIZATION HAS HAD FUND RAISING CAMPAIGNS FOR LAND STEWARDSHIP, SCHOOL HOUSE REMODEL, ART GALLERY OPERATION, NATIVE AMERICAN FELLOWSHIP AND THE ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAMS. THE UCROSS FOUNDATION SEEKS OUT FUNDING PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAMS WITH OTHER PUBLIC CHARITIES THAT SUPPORT THE ARTS. THE ORGANIZATION HAS ALSO BEEN FOCUSING ON HOLDING EVENTS IN OTHER STATES TO DRAW ATTENTION TO THE PROGRAMS BEING OFFERED, AS WELL AS ATTRACTING ADDITIONAL FUNDING SOURCES. 3.THE UCROSS FOUNDATION BOARD OF TRUSTEES HAS INCLUDED, AND WILL ALWAYS INCLUDE, PEOPLE FROM VARIOUS OCCUPATIONS AND LOCATIONS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES WHO HAVE BROAD PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND ENTHUSIASM FOR THE ARTS. ALL BOARD MEMBERS USE THEIR VARIED KNOWLEDGE -- WHICH INCLUDES EXPERIENCE IN ACADEMIC, ART MUSEUMS, LEGAL, BUSINESS, AND OTHER MATTERS CRUCIAL TO NONPROFITS - TO MAINTAIN UCROSS FOUNDATION AS A PREMIER ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM. 4.THE UCROSS FOUNDATION PROVIDES MANY PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE FREE TO THE PUBLIC.
