Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The mission of the oklahoma aquarium foundation is to support the operations, educational programs, strategic growth and sustainability of the jenks aquarium authority (a political subdivision of the city of jenks, oklahoma) in jenks, oklahoma. The aquarium is dedicated to fostering knowledge, appreciation and conservation of aquatic life and environments and welcomes more than 400,000 visitors annually providing an economic benefit in addition to serving as an educational resource. The purposes and objectives of the foundation shall be to develop, manage, operate and/or serve as an affiliated board of directors for public aquariums which will also serve as natural history museums, nature and wildlife interpretive and rehabilitation centers, sanctuaries, refuges, propogation centers for plant and animal species, house public or private agencies of a similar purpose and as science centers

Organization Review of 990

The Treasurer, Executive Committee and the Investment and Finance Committee of the Foundation reviewed the 990 prior to filing with the IRS.

Conflict of Interest Policy Process

Prior to entering into any agreement, the Executive Director and/or Executive Committee reviews the disclosed conflicts of interest to ensure that none exist in regards to the new agreement. If one were to exist, the conflict would be disclosed to the entire Executive Committee, voted on and communicated to the entire board of directors.

Governance, Management and Disclosure

The bylaws of the organization allow for meetings at least annually. The executive committee meets every other month (the month between board of directors meetings), or as needed if more frequent, to discuss governance and management issues. The members of the board of directors meet every other month and vote to approve the actions taken by the organization, including the executive committee, during the prior two month period, if not approved in advance.

THE AQUARIUM IS DEDICATED TO FOSTERING KNOWLEDGE, APPRECIATION AND CONSERVATION OF AQUATIC LIFE AND ENVIRONMENTS AND WELCOMES MORE THAN 400,000 VISITORS ANNUALLY PROVIDING AN ECONOMIC BENEFIT IN ADDITION TO SERVING AS AN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE. THE PURPOSES AND OBJECTIVES OF THE FOUNDATION SHALL BE TO DEVELOP, MANAGE, OPERATE AND/OR SERVE AS AN AFFILIATED BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR PUBLIC AQUARIUMS WHICH WILL ALSO SERVE AS NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUMS, NATURE AND WILDLIFE INTERPRETIVE AND REHABILITATION CENTERS, SANCTUARIES, REFUGES, PROPOGATION CENTERS FOR PLANT AND ANIMAL SPECIES, HOUSE PUBLIC OR PRIVATE AGENCIES OF A SIMILAR PURPOSE AND AS SCIENCE CENTERS
