Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Oklahoma central credit union is a 501(c)(14), state chartered credit union. Oklahoma central credit union provides consumer and business financial services to include deposit accounts, investments, and loans. Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of our employees, members, and the communities we serve.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Provide enhanced access to credit at reasonable rates - the credit union uses a prudent lending philosophy to offer various loan products at a low cost for members to finance their homes, automobiles, boats, college expenses, etc. During 2012, the credit union approved 5,388 loan requests for over $123.8m. A total of 508 real estate loans were approved with a dollar amount of $52.4m. We continued to offer fha real estate loans and made a total of 37 for $4.7m. In the member business arena, we approved 19 commercial loan requests totaling $8.6m for members and acquired 2 additional loans (through participations) of non-members totaling $4.2m for a combined total of $12.8m. The credit union is in its fifth year of commercial lending - a direct response to our small business owners' requests for financial services. Product offerings also included shorter term (7-year) mortgage loans at lower rates. The credit union continues offering storm shelter loans at a very low interest rate in order to help members afford the costly expense of adding a fortified storm shelter to their residence.
Activity 3
Community involvement: the credit union supports our community in various venues. Last year, we ran the spread the word referral campaign, which allowed new members to direct a contribution to one of four charities: children's miracle network (cmn), habitat for humanity, meals on wheels or eastern oklahoma food bank, resulting in a substantial contribution for all. Additional funds were raised for cmn/children's hospital foundation at st. Francis through the annual cmn football fever campaign; oklahoma central was recognized by the credit union association of oklahoma and received the state's largest contributor per member award in the $200-499 million asset range. The tulsa area united way campaign was successful again in 2012; fundraising initiatives included branch fundraising events such as bake sales, a tailgate-themed party, a chili cook-off, raffles and more. The partners in education (pie) program gives time and funding to four local schools (carnegie, marshall, and sequoyah elementary schools in tulsa, and north intermediate high school in broken arrow) and helped provide school uniforms, head phones, student of the month awards, and movie passes; pie also supported an open house and teacher appreciation week. Several employees have volunteered for united way agencies, special olympics events, and various school functions and community events. Our 6th annual shred day, held in october, is designed to help members protect themselves against identity theft and conserve the environment through recycling as the two predominant themes. Also, for the first time, the credit union participated in boo ha ha, a very popular annual neighborhood parade held in october. Also new last year, oklahoma central conducted financial literacy webinars on several need-to-know topics, which were open to the public. The first financial literacy workshop series for parents at kipp college preparatory school kicked off and culminated in 2013, when three of the parents each won a laptop from the credit union for completing the workshops with perfect participation.
