Activity 2

Publications: tes publishes six peer-reviewed scientific journals aimed at furthering the understanding of biomedical research into endocrine disorders and the treatment of patients with endocrine-related conditions. Three of the journals are published monthly; two are published bi-monthly, and one is published quarterly. Each journal is edited by a group of endocrinologists who are also members of the society. In addition, each journal article is peer reviewed by society members with expertise in the subject matter of the article/research being presented. Approximately 4,000 members donate time during the year to the peer review process. The society also publishes a monthly periodical that provides an analysis of the scientific advances and news in endocrinology. Member clinicians often disseminate this publication to their patients and others as an informational resource on the causes and possible treatments for endocrine disorders. The periodical also provides information to members on society events, educational opportunities, and general news in the field of endocrinology.

Activity 3

Government and public affairs: tes identifies issues and public policy objectives important to the professional lives of its members and advocates on their behalf. This advocacy takes several forms including comments to federal agencies, development of position statements and clinical guidelines, media outreach, and direct lobbying. The society also represents its members' interests through participation with other groups and coalitions, such as the american medical association (ama) and the federation of american societies of experimental biology (faseb). Tes publishes a semi-monthly online newsletter with a focus on health and science public policy that impacts the endocrinologist.
