The mission of The Long Now Foundation is to promote long-term thinking and to explore new ways to inspire others to think long-term. A broader understanding of the present moment can reframe enormous challenges as tractable and imply deep responsibility to future generations. Long Now advances this mission through a variety of projects and programs ranging from the monument-scale 10,000 Year Clock to the micro-scale Rosetta Project archive of human languages. All projects aim to shift culture toward a longer temporal perspective. All programs aim to connect long-term thinkers from around the world.
Through its projects and programs, The Long Now Foundation works to foster long-term thinking and responsibility in the framework of the next 10,000 years.

“All Trustees, Directors, Officers, and Key Employees are required to sign a Conflict of Interest policy. It is the policy of the Board that the existence of any interests that give rise to conflict be disclosed on a timely basis and always before any transaction is consummated. It shall be the continuing responsibility of the Board, officers, and management employees to scrutinize their transactions and outside business interests and relationships for potential conflicts and to immediately make such disclosures. Board member disclosures should be made to a Board officer and staff disclosures should be made to the chief executive. The Board shall determine whether a conflict exists and is material, and in the presence of an existing material conflict, whether the contemplated transaction may be authorized as just, fair, and reasonable to Long Now. The decision of the BOard on these matters will rest in their sole discretion, and their concern must be the welfare of Long Now and the advancement of its purpose.”

At the end of 02016, The Revive & Restore project spun off of the Long Now Foundation and as of 02017 is a separate non-profit organization. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: The Interval Salon - a space in Fort Mason Center open to the public seven days a week that includes project installations and exhibits, a library, beverages, and an educational events program. It is a compelling venue for conversation that invites visitors to spend time in a place that itself encourages long-term thinking.”
“The Foundation is organized as a not-for-profit organization and is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Unrelated business income, of which the Foundation had none for the years ended December 31, 2017 and 2016, would be subject to federal income taxes. The Foundation's information returns filed with the Internal Revenue Service have not been examined in the past. The Foundation is not aware of any uncertainties that could jeopardize its not-for-profit status. Therefore, no provision or liability for income taxes is deemed necessary. The Foundation follows the provisions of uncertain tax positions addressed by FAS ASC 740-10 Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes. The Foundation has no uncertain tax positions at December 31, 2017, for which the ultimate deductibility is highly certain but for which there is uncertainty about the timing of such deductibility. The Foundation recognizes interest accrued related to unrecognized tax benefits in interest expense and penalties in operating expense. The Foundation has determined that no amount is required to be accrued for taxes or related penalties and interest for any tax position taken through December 31, 2017.”
