FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4A, PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

long-form reporting, and our twice-a-week public affairs show. This includes our commitment to an in-dept series a quarter to give breadth and depth to issues facing our listeners. For the one-year mark since the Pulse nightclub shooting we created a one-hour special focused on the survivors and those in the LGBT community affected by the mass shooting. We also developed two podcast series: one in English and one in Spanish so we could reach the families, friends and those around the globe who wanted to know more but were limited by English-only coverage. In March we held a town hall at Orlando Health talking with first responders and survivors about their experience since the nightclub shooting. We also rolled out a week-long series looking at how black, male youths make up a large number of incarcerated juveniles. The series talked with black teens who found themselves caught up in the criminal justice system and what was being done to keep them from spending time behind bars and having a criminal record. Our coverage also took us to Puerto Rico where we talked with residents at the airport fleeing the island after Hurricane Maria. Our public affairs show Intersection takes calls from listeners for the first segment of the Friday broadcast. These calls come from both sides of the issues and often from more than one of the six counties in our primary coverage area. In this show we have talked with new arrivals and those who are helping them relocate to central Florida in our talk show. We have also dedicated a webpage on our website collecting all of our coverage and NPRs reporting to serve as a resource for those wanting to know more about relocation and whats happening in Puerto Rico. We also launched wmfeindepth.org a webpage giving us a place to build out our reporting on a multi-media platform. WMFE reporters continue to gain new Twitter followers, using it as a reporting tool while covering stories out in the field. The Intersection team uses Facebook Live to promote the show and they elicit questions from listeners. WMFE continues its commitment to partner with other public radio stations in the state. We partnered with public radio station WLRN in Miami on the series: "River of Grass Dying of Thirst." This five-part series and web build out looked at the environmental, social and political forces shaping the Florida Everglades. 90.7 WMFEs partnership with the other public radio stations in the state was showcased and provided essential emergency alert and preparedness information across the state during Hurricane Irma. All of Floridas public radio stations came together to help report on Hurricane Irma, which scraped along most of the state in September 2017. We not only utilized the Florida Public Radio Networks meteorologist, but we also collected sound and live reports from reporters across the state. We also utilized our partnership with Comcast cable network News 13. WMFE was on-air with regular and then around-the-clock reports from Sunday September 10th through Monday September 11th with in-depth coverage continuing through the week. We continue our participation in filing and airing stories with Health News Florida. WMFE has also strengthened its ties to the University of Central Florida by participating in its internship fairs twice during the academic year. The university is a major pipeline for our rebooted internship program. We are now accepting three interns per semester, most of them coming from UCF. Several of those interns are from minority communities. Members of the newsroom also made many appearances in the community to connect with a diverse group of local institutions and nonprofits. They talked with high school students about space, spoke with Valencia College students about podcasting, moderated at a UNITY business mixer, discussed ethics and the media at an event presented by the Holocaust Memorial Center, participated in a roundtable for the Florida Political Science Association, moderated a

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

The endowment funds are used to bolster the services and programming provided to wmfe's audience.

PART X, LINE 2:

The Company is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and from state income taxes under similar provisions of the Florida Statutes. The Company identifies and evaluates uncertain tax positions, if any, and recognizes the impact of uncertain tax positions for which there is a less than more-likely-than-not probability of the position being upheld when reviewed by the relevant taxing authority. Such positions are deemed to be unrecognized tax benefits and a corresponding liability is established on the statement of financial position. The Company has not recognized a liability for uncertain tax positions. If there were an unrecognized tax benefit, the Company would recognize interest accrued related to unrecognized tax benefits in interest expense and penalties in operating expenses. The Companys open tax years subject to examination by the Internal Revenue Service generally remain open for three years from the date of filing.
