“Per state statute, the board of directors of the organization is approved by the district school board.”
“A draft of the form 990 is provided to all board members prior to filing. The draft form 990 is reviewed by the treasurer, the executive director and the accountant at a finance committee meeting with the return preparer and approved before filing.”
“Any violations of the conflict of interest policy are handled by the executive committee of the board of directors.”
“The finance committee met to conduct a pay comparability study using the 2013 central florida nonprofit compensation and benefits report as a basis. The committee recommended a competitive salary for the executive director to be included in the budget for the fiscal year; the recommended salary moves toward the board's strategic goal of compensating at no less than the 75th percentile. Approval of the salaries was included in the board discussion of the budget, which was approved by the board of directors.”
“The process described above for compensation of the executive director also included consideration of the compensation for all other staff positions.”
“The foundation's organizing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements are available to the public at its office.”

“Supply zone for teachers established in 2014, the supply zone for teachers is the newest program of the brevard schools foundation. Functioning as a free store, the supply zone is a resource center that provides free school supplies for teachers to use in the classroom. By focusing on low-income and homeless populations, the supply zone works to ensure that all children have equal access to the necessary school supplies regardless of background. Students no longer have to feel disconnected, embarrassed, and unprepared when they come to school without supplies; the tools they need to succeed are ready and waiting for them in the classroom. During the 2014-2015 school year, the supply zone exceeded its first year goals by hosting 712 teachers for 1,004 teacher shopping visits that benefited an estimated 14,240 students. With an average shopping trip valued at 240, teachers received more than 240,000 in distributed product. In addition to serving the teachers in eligible schools (those with 70% or more students on free and/or reduced lunch), the supply zone held special shopping events open to all schools. The shop from the heart event benefited homeless students through each school's homeless student liaisons, and a literacy event distributed brand new books. During the summer, the supply zone organizes and hosts an annual back to school giveaway event to distribute a backpack and free supplies directly to students enrolled in the free and/or reduced lunch program.”

DURING THE SUMMER, THE SUPPLY ZONE ORGANIZES AND HOSTS AN ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL GIVEAWAY EVENT TO DISTRIBUTE A BACKPACK AND FREE SUPPLIES DIRECTLY TO STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE FREE AND/OR REDUCED LUNCH PROGRAM. |
