IRS990/Description0The BRIDGES Initiative - Housing Partnership is the lead agency for six neighborhood hubs that support families with young children. Funded by the Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County, the BRIDGES focus on awareness, education and support around parenting and early childhood development in critical geographic areas. Overall, BRIDGES facilitate family engagement, and serve to strengthen and build community capacity and resilience. BRIDGES offer tips and workshops for parents, information on healthy ways to help children grow and learn, fun family events, help connecting to community resources, and much more. BRIDGES support partnerships between organizations and residents of the communities to address and improve common social conditions that affect children and their families, with focus on community building and strengthening existing community assets. -We served over 900 families this year at our six Bridges sites in Riviera Beach, Belle Glade, Pahokee, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth and Highland Elementary.-Over 300 parents successfully completed 4 sessions of the evidence-based "Positive Parenting Program" and reported increases in their increased confidence in parenting abilityThe goal of BRIDGES is to have a positive impact on the families they serve directly. Our program model believes that BRIDGES members who've been involved in a determined amount of service: (1) feel more supported in their role as a parent, and (2) are more knowledgeable about resources available to them. Our funder implemented a parent survey designed to measure progress in these objectives. In addition to these outcomes, the survey sought to provide insight regarding their satisfaction, utilization and access to formal and informal supports. BRIDGES parents are eligible to complete the survey if they have a child 0-8 years old and have been "immersed" in BRIDGES programming: participating in at least 8 parent/ child activities, capacity building workshops and/or 1:1 "navigation" sessions that help connect families to resources they desire & need. 115 "immersed" parents that participated in 2012-13 were surveyed. Some of the survey questions explored the parents' satisfaction with the BRIDGES program.-100% felt "welcome", "safe" and "treated with respect". They all agreed that BRIDGES is "a supportive place" and "valuable to my community". Ninety-five percent (95%) of respondents "strongly agreed".Cultivating results through BRIDGES relies on being able to increase supports and mitigate the vulnerability of children and their families. The navigation strategy of BRIDGES links families with support services so their needs can be met and their long-term stability enhanced. Through the navigation it is anticipated families will become better connected with formal supports they need. It is expected that, if successful, the BRIDGES strategies increase the accessibility and effectiveness of support services for families and, in turn, families in targeted areas develop stronger support systems.-83% increased their familiarity of community resources-99% believed that BRIDGES support made it easier to access the services / help they needed-The services asked about during the survey include: child care, academic support, home visiting, parent education & support, prenatal care, counseling or mental health services, and whether their children have a pediatrician or primary care provider. While service utilization varied quite a bit based on the service itself overall, surveyed parents reported increased utilization of services from the time of their intake in each of the services examined. -The most substantial increase in service utilization among immersed members surveyed was seen in their reported access of parent education & support (54%), academic support services (37%), and child care (36%).The aim is that through participation in BRIDGES, parents will become more resourceful and connected with formal and informal support, which in turn will lead
