South sudan: as sudan wages war against its non-arab citizens, hundreds of thousands of people have been driven from their homes in the nuba mountains and other regions. Samaritan's purse is providing life-saving relief to more than 170,000 of these refugees in five camps in south sudan. We have distributed thousands of tons of food, treated severely malnourished children at our therapeutic feeding centers, and offered medical care, shelter, clean water, blankets, and hygiene items. Our staff and christian refugees invite residents to the more than 30 open-air churches established in the camps. "and the king will answer them, 'truly, i say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me'" (matthew 25:40, nasb).

Activity 3

Japan: on march 11, 2011, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake generated a tsunami that swept away everything in its path. The twin disasters left nearly 20,000 people dead or missing. Hundreds of thousands lost their homes, possessions, and livelihoods. Within days of the catastrophe, samaritan's purse chartered a 747 cargo jet to airlift 93 tons of emergency relief supplies to the hardest-hit areas. A massive emergency response transitioned into a major home construction program in 2012. By the end of the year, staff and volunteers had rebuilt 507 homes for japanese families whose lives had been turned upside down by the catastrophe. "for god did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him" (john 3:17, esv).
