Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To promote the biotechnology and biomedical industry in virginia and to expand the knowledge and expertise of virginia's businesses concerning biotech/biomed, to enhance public awareness and understanding of the science and the industry.

Major Activities

Activity 2
In may 2013 virginia bio celebrated its 20th anniversary with a daylong event that included separate roundtable session focusing on topics such as economic development, transition of science from university to commercial use, and stem-h education. Following the roundtable sessions an award gala was held, were 350 attendees gathered ranging from a noble prize winner to the worlds first cloned pig. The day brought over 500 educators, government officials, biotechnology industry representatives and economic development professional who participated.
Activity 3
The association produces an electronic newsletter that is e-mailed monthly to more than 6000 biotechnology leaders. The association is building a new website and membership database that will launch in 2013. This website will enhance our services and will provide targeted news and information for life sciences across the state. The site includes a rss feed and a blog that helps communicate with young professionals and students. The association sponsors educational program and student chapters at state universities such as james madison university and virginia tech.
