Mission

To promote the biotechnology and biomedical industry in virginia and to expand the knowledge and expertise of virginia's businesses concerning biotech/biomed, to enhance public awareness and understanding of the science and the industry.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Virginia bio is the designated affiliate for bio, the national membership association for the biotechnology industry. Virginia bio serves more than 200 member companies and hundreds of individuals who are interested in careers in the life sciences. Virginia bio provided funding to a non-profit foundation for summer internships at biotechnology companies for university students. Virginia bio is responsible for bioscience awards at the virginia state science and engineering fair. Virginia bio served as state partner for the us national and international biogeneius challenge held in boston, ma in june 2012.
Activity 3
The association produces an electronic newsletter that is e-mailed monthly to more than 6000 biotechnology leaders. The associations website continues to grow. It enhances our services and provides targeted news and information for biotechnology in the state. The site includes and rss feed, podcasts and a blog that helps communicate with young professionals and students. The association sponsors educational program and students chapters at state universities such as james madison university and virginia tech.
