Neighborhood Resources: Partner with our community to provide resources and referrals to prevent homelessness, prevent and manage hunger and/or financial crisis, provide foreclosure counseling and mitigation, support learning, job training and placement, facilitate social, cultural, recreational and educational activities for adults and youth, and support family stability and normalcy at walk-in and neighborhood-based resource centers.Program Accomplishments in FY12: During this past year, RI served 272 households with financial assistance and community case management services. In FY 12, 1,749 unduplicated families received emergency support in the form of emergency food and toiletries; 130 families received assessments and brief case management; 251 families participated in life skills classes and workshops on topics related to financial literacy, health and nutrition, family relationships and language/communication; and 1,430 received assessments, information and referrals and services which might have included financial assistance with rent and utilities, referrals to gently used clothing, and access to seasonal drives for back-packs, school supplies and holiday food and gifts. RI has not seen a reduction in the demand for emergency services.Foreclosure CounselingOver the past year, homebuyers counseling was provided to 50 unduplicated households. We have provided foreclosure prevention counseling to 175 households.

Activity 3

Affordable Housing: Affordable housing preservation, development and management projects in our community and advocacy for policies that preserve and develop affordable housing.Program Accomplishments in FY12: Provided extensive counseling and case management to help clients find and remain in stable and affordable housing. Provide affordable housing for 48 households in scattered site, affordable housing available to low- and moderate-income families in the Reston-Herndon area. We were able to create additional project-based designations for our homes enabling us to house families with high housing barriers, ensuring they pay no more than 30% of their income toward rent. Eight families achieved a high level of self-sufficiency and moved out of our homes to other permanent housing arrangements enabling us to serve 8 new families in need of affordable housing.
