| WHAT IS 168 FILM: 168 Film is a Faith-based artist incubator, which includes worldwide filmmaking and writing competitions. We assist emerging artists by equipping them vocationally and spiritually. We aim to make great art for the world to enjoy. We have been a tremendous boost and advantage to our community, seeding the clouds with filmmakers of faith since 2003. We have gotten in touch with many of the good filmmakers of faith in this country and in others, and we have made them better artists by giving them good opportunities and exciting rewards. After over 1,000 bible-based films in 15 years, we are a catalyst for change for Hollywood and ultimately, the world. We want to challenge the existing perception of faith-based art, to act as a beacon for weary Christians and to draw others to the truth. The pace and difficulty of our speed filmmaking competition shapes people quickly, driving them toward a better understanding of the Word of God and toward mastery of their craft. The Year 2017:Festival attendance was up significantly and ticket sales were the highest in recent years, possibly best ever. The 168 Film Festival Ticket Sales totaled $15,717 in 2017.We attribute this to the early involvement and publicity of key celebrities including TC Stallings, to the great prize and to curiosity about the feature film which was screened, Unbridled directed by 168 Founder John David Ware. Another factor was the acceptance of completed submissions to the festival. This gave old friends a chance to show their work to the community. We grew in size and scope in 2017. Here are some accomplishments and new directions: KidVids continue to be a vibrant entry category. Whereas before, artists paid little attention to childrens films, now our filmmakers embrace, value and honor this art form. This is an amazing victory! This year saw our first Virtual Reality entries as we pushed our filmmakers towards the cutting edge. The Best Scripts from our Screenwriting Contest continue to be offered to student filmmakers, who can greatly accelerate their education by focusing on making a great story. The 168 Days Feature Screenwriting competition was developed to allow the winning screenwriter the opportunity to become a Writer/Producer through the 8168 Feature Project. We learned much from 168 Days, but it needs some rethinking and will not be offered in 2018. We recognize that competition is the best way to push people to excel so we created the next step. The 8168 Feature Prize is a filmmakers dream; feature film production funds to make their first film, up to $250,000! In 2017, the 168 Film Project artists competed for the opportunity to win this prize. Eligible filmmakers first made a short film for the speed film competition in May. Then the winner was selected out of nine finalists. The winners were a father daughter team, which had made the top KidVid in 2017, Lost an animated film about a shepherd who had lost a sheep. Rachel Lowry won best kid vid last Time she entered and she is now 10 years old.The 168 Film Festival At this years 168 Film Festival (Aug. 20-21), we showed all of the wonderfully diverse film submissions from around the world.
