“Citydance is a recognized arts and education leader in our nation's capital. Founded in 1996, citydance's mission is to bring the highest- quality professional dance to d.c. Stages; train youth for 21st century dance careers; and provide access to dance training and performance to underserved populations.”
“For our students to work and perform with professional artists. Following a successful pilot partnership with washington performing arts in the spring of 2013, the partnership was expanded to co-present a full season of dance at prominent metro-area venues. The 2013-2014 season began with a performance by renowned dance theatre of harlem (dth) at sydney harman hall october 17-19 that featured seven citydance school & conservatory students. Prior to the performance, dth artistic director virginia johnson taught three master dance classes to 75 school & conservatory students ages 9-19. Due to the overwhelming response by our students and the community, citydance and dth established a continued partnership that resulted in dth hosting its summer ballet intensive at our school & conservatory june 22 - july 3. Citydance and wpas partnered twice more in the season to present koresh dance company and momix. Koresh dance company artistic director melissa rector spent five days at the citydance school & conservatory setting the company's work "standing in tears" on 15 conservatory students which was performed as the opening piece for both koresh performances. Citydance also brings renowned artists to the dc area through our annual gala, which raises funds to support our cornerstone community program, dream. Co-produced by renowned dancer and producer rasta thomas, the evening brings dance superstars from around the world for one night of spectacular dance at dc's lincoln theatre. In addition to presenting nationally-renowned artists through citydance onstage, we also present local artists through citydance ignite. The program supports emerging dance artists in the creation and performance of their work by providing them with rehearsal space in the spacious studios at the citydance center at strathmore; the ability to present their original work in the state-of-the-art citydance studio theater at strathmore; and marketing, pr, and administrative support from citydance staff. Resident artists included robert j. Priore, asanga domask, and sara j. Ewing. In january, we presented the first of these artists, robert j. Priore, during two sold-out performances in the studio theater. The compelling program featured guest artists from dayton contemporary dance company performing priore's newest work, an original work set on conservatory students, and a third work featuring conservatory students alongside professional dancers. In march resident artist asanga domask, an internationally-recognized sri lankan traditional and folk dance performer who directs citydance's sri lankan dance program, partnered with maryland classical youth orchestras and citydance students to perform interpretations of the iconic swans from "swan lake." in april, resident artist sara j. Ewing premiered her full-length work, trapped happiness, in the citydance studio theater. Citydance community programs serving under-resourced youth in washington dc for nearly two decades, citydance's community programs have developed a strong reputation for engaging and empowering young people. Through two distinctive programs, dream and reachdc, citydance community programs are offered at over 30 community-based sites in the region's most under-resourced neighborhoods providing free performances, in-school and after-school programs, and summer camps to over 5,000 students each year. Dream as the arts become less accessible in our schools, dream reaches into our neighborhoods, giving back to our students what is fundamental to any child's future - experience and participation in the arts. Now in its tenth year, the four-hour a week after-school program is offered to 120 students in third through eighth grades at six dc public schools and employs the principles of advancing youth development - a nationally-recognized model for instilling youth with the skills necessary for success in life. The dream curriculum is designed to achieve three specific ayd goals: mastery and future - students”
“Citydance school and conservatory citydance school and conservatory based in the music center at strathmore in north bethesda, md, provides over 600 students annually with high-level dance training. Additionally, satellite centers at the madeira school and potomac school in virginia reach another 100 youth. Even with multiple sites, the demand for training has grown tremendously over the past few years, prompting us to open another studio. In september 2013, we opened our newest site at the academy of the holy cross, a private girls school located adjacent to the strathmore campus. With close to 100 classes taught each week citydance's curriculum is designed to develop the next generation of dance performers and innovators. The well-rounded core curriculum consists of a ballet program rooted in vaganova principles, modern and contemporary techniques, as well as jazz, hip hop, bollywood, sri lankan and afro-fusion. Citydance's faculty are highly trained teachers, choreographers and coaches, and through the guest artist program, citydance brings professional artists and companies from around the world for short and long-term residencies. Guest artists lead master classes, teach professional-level choreography, create new repertory and perform with and for the students. The conservatory program, established in 2007, prepares dancers ages 13-19 for professional careers in dance. Dancers attend ten hours per week of ballet and/or modern with four to eight more hours of study in other genres. To ensure conservatory students receive the highest-quality training, we recruit the most lauded dance educators, establish partnerships with international and national professional artists, provide a wide variety of student performance opportunities, and seek to embrace, develop, and model innovative dance curricula and ideas that promote creativity and new directions in the various branches of the dance field at-large. Conservatory students have been accepted into higher level dance studies in colleges and universities across the nation, including alvin ailey/fordham college, purchase college/suny, berkeley, point park, rutgers, mont clair, and tisch school at nyu and julliard. They are also commonly accepted into prestigious summer camp programs, a sign of their skill and talent as well as necessary prerequisite for broadening their education and preparing them for a professional career as a dancer. Each year, citydance school & conservatory participates in the prestigious youth america grand prix (yagp), the world's largest student ballet scholarship competition attended by talent-seeking artistic directors from dance companies nationwide. In february, citydance took ten conservatory students to the yagp regional competition in rhode island, winning numerous awards and generating interest in our elite training program. Citydance students won eight individual awards and three group awards, securing their place at the yagp finals in new york city in april. A major accomplishment affecting all three citydance program areas, including citydance onstage, citydance community programs and citydance school & conservatory, is the elimination of 275,000 in debt accrued by the close of 2009. Due to an aggressive repayment plan, as of december 2013 citydance is debt-free.”

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 1 | FOR OUR STUDENTS TO WORK AND PERFORM WITH PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS.
