“The primary program of calyx, inc. Is the production of calyx journal a journal dedicated to publishing the finest art and literature by women. Calyx journal receives submissions from approximately 700 individuals, has 752 subscribers, and is distributed to bookstores nationwide. Calyx is also beginning our 40th anniversary celebrations by partnering with ooligan press to publish an anthology of work published in our 40 year history. Anniversary celebrations are planned to raise the public profile and re-brand calyx for a new era. In 2014 the calyx books publication, into the forest, by jean hegland was developed into a film directed by patricia rozema and starring ellen page and evan rachel wood. Royalties from this production formed a major source of income for calyx and the film has re-ignited interest in the book with several international reprint requests. In addition to production of calyx journal, calyx is currently working on a multi year assessment of program activities through demographic surveys, social media, and the development of an online community. In addition to the above, calyx is currently working to reinvigorate our brand and organization to better adapt to a rapidly changing publishing world.”
