Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The return is sent to all trustees and to outside legal counsel for their review before filing, and the return is filed after their review.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Each year the existing conflict of interest policy is circulated to the trustees to sign/return (adopted 10/22/15); they must state that they have read and understand the document, and that they do not have any conflicts nor take any action that would appear to constitute a conflict. In addition, a questionnaire is sent to trustees along with the policy, asking about any potential conflicts or independence issues which also must be signed/returned.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

A tax-exempt section 501(c)(3) organization that controls fte. See schedule r. They follow tfas' compensation and review process. The ceo is charged with hiring and setting compensation for other officers and key employees.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Audited financial statements and irs form 990 are made available to the public on the organization's website or upon request by providing copies or inspection at our office for the same period of disclosure as set forth in section 6104(d). Fte's governing documents and conflict of interest policy are not made available to the public.

Form 990, Part I, Line 1

The mission of the fte is to introduce young individuals, selected for their leadership potential, to an economic way of thinking about national and international issues, and to promote excellence in economic education by helping teachers of economics become more effective educators.

FORM 990, PART III, LINE 1, DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION MISSION:

The mission of the fte is to introduce young individuals, selected for their leadership potential, to an economic way of thinking about national and international issues, and to promote excellence in economic education by helping teachers of economics become more effective educators.

FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4A, PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Student programs and teacher programs student programs economics for leaders: efl is a selective week-long summer program that teaches high school students how to integrate economics into the process of decision-making in a hands-on, experiential environment. Programs are held on college campuses across the country. Programs are led by economics professors and leadership instructors selected, nationwide, for their expertise and teaching effectiveness. Morning discussions, activities, and interactive sessions introduce participants to the "economic way of thinking." afternoon sessions build an understanding of leadership and participants practice leadership skills in a fun-filled series of tasks and dilemmas. Students also engage in a creative decision-making challenge in which they apply and demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have gained during the week. Leadership academy: "leadership and economics" is an extension of our economics for leaders program. The program expands the economic reasoning skills learned in efl through 4 days of activities and projects in the interactive style found in efl. Topics include history, government policy, leadership, and economics. Students are challenged to take their efl experience to the next level by applying the economic reasoning propositions to historical analysis and to dilemmas of leadership. Economic history for leaders: ehfl is a selective week-long summer program that teaches high school students to use economic reasoning to understand pivotal events in american history. These programs are held on college campuses across the country and are led by economic history and mentor teachers. Teacher programs economics for leaders: in these week-long programs, high school teachers "go back to school and are taught by university professors and mentor teachers. What's unique are the games and simulations: instructors run the activities with real students so the teachers can observe the students' interactions. The teachers see, up close, why fte-designed lessons are so effective and leave with a better knowledge of economics, new classroom strategies, and a renewed enthusiasm for teaching. Other teacher programs include economic forces in american history, economic issues for teachers, environment and the economy, and right start in teaching economics. Other programs one day seminars - single topic workshops that show how economic reasoning can enhance student learning about contemporary issues. Online programs - user friendly and highly interactive programs where participants receive economics curriculum, lecture and video demonstrations, online interaction with teachers around the country and world, and graduate credit.

Financial Statement Notes
