“Most of the youth we see at the kidstlc prtf have a history of childhood trauma, abuse or neglect, as well as disrupted attachments. Many are now being raised by foster parents, adoptive parents or grandparents and other relatives. Residential treatment allows kidstlc to reduce destructive behaviors, redirect the attitudes and feelings, which contribute to these behaviors, provide a safe environment and resolve the emotional effects of abuse/neglect. We provide a supportive environment for learning positive ways of interacting with others. Clients learn about the freedom to make choices and to accept responsibility for those choices as well as the ensuing consequences. All of these steps prepare each client for discharge and re-integration into society. Program services are offered to each client through an individualized plan of care, treatment goals and objectives developed in response to the client's needs. The treatment philosophy is based on dyadic developmental psychotherapy (ddp), which is a highly relational model that provides an emotionally and physically safe environment in which complexly traumatized children can begin to form attachments with safe and emotionally regulated adults. Family therapy is a key component of the treatment protocol where parents and/or adult care-givers are required to participate. Additionally, kidstlc provides a parent support group that parents are highly encouraged to attend. Individual and group therapy for the children is provided with the target of stabilizing them in order to help them return to the community from which they were referred. Kidstlc initiated intense ddp staff training and will become the first residential agency in the u.s. To be certified by the dyadic developmental psychotherapy institute. During the tax year, 229 individuals were served for 21,946 days of care. Results include 82% of children reported a steady or increased level of functioning and 85% of kids report being satisfied with services.”
“Kidstlc's autism program offers a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team assessment as well as single specialization assessments to identify a child's needs in the areas of social behavior, language and communication, fine and gross motor functioning, sensory needs and academic and adaptive functioning. Kidstlc utilizes applied behavior analysis (aba) techniques and principles to bring about meaningful and positive change in behavior. This class of intervention includes techniques such as prompting, shaping, differential reinforcement and chaining. Parents are involved in their child's services by participating in direct training or through observation of their child in the clinic, home or community during their therapy sessions. During 2017, 41 children were served for a total of 37,067 treatment hours. Autism results include: 100% of parents surveyed stated that they either agreed or strongly agreed that they were satisfied with their services, 87% of parents stated that they saw a decrease in problem behavior in the first 90 days of treatment, and 100% stated that their child can demonstrate new skills since beginning treatment.”
“Kidstlc's outpatient behavioral health program (obh) offers an integrated seamless service delivery model that includes individual, family and group therapies; medication evaluation and medication management, outpatient substance abuse services, and evidenced-based dialectical behavioral therapy (dbt) programming. Obh provides mental health services to children, adolescents and their families, with an outcome to positively increase overall functioning across multiple settings in home, school and community. Kidstlc has significant expertise in diagnosing and treating complex emotional and trauma histories including physical and sexual abuse, neglect and attachment trauma. The sanctuary portion provides a safe place to keep children and adolescents out of custody, prevents long-term treatment, and provides a step-down service for children. Our team of professionals is committed to supporting our clients who are ready to be discharged but have difficulties in placement or need additional transition work to move onto their next place in life. The evening intensive outreach (iop) portion is designed for children and families experiencing greater difficulties than traditional outpatient services can provide. The purpose of this program is to keep families together and prevent out-of-home care. The focus of this program is to improve relational abilities that will improve family, school, and community life. The format focuses on group activities and skills but includes individual support for the child as well as family therapy and parenting education and support groups. During the year, 1,793 children and families were served, equating to a total of 17,946 hours of therapy. A steady or increased level of functioning was reported by 80% of kids and 83% of parent reported satisfaction with services.”
“Kidstlc's street outreach services (sos) is meeting a growing trend by focusing on housing as the primary solution for homeless youth and families, or youth and families at risk of becoming homeless, in johnson county and the kansas city metro area. Through a targeted program of education, basic needs, crisis intervention over the phone through its 24-hour crisis hotline, and access to medical and behavioral health care, kidstlc's sos program offers the critical support that moves vulnerable youth and families out of harm's way and into a life of independence. The ultimate goal of the sos program is to keep youth safe, help them secure stable housing, and to prevent unhealthy consequences of living on the streets or in unsafe housing, including abuse and explotation. A total of 150 new clients were added to our existing client base with a total of 3,615 units of service provided. During the tax year, 133 individuals from johnson county entered our sos housing case management: 17 were referred to shelter; 3 were referred to transitional living programs; and the remaining 113 were permanently housed. Additionally, our sos team made 409 face-to-face contacts with at-risk youth; eased hunger with 2,574 food items: and provided dignity with 1,546 hygiene items. Follow up data at year end indicated 80% of individuals housed by sos have not experienced further episodes of homelessness. Chaplaincy services of kidstlc works in tandem with our clinical and medical treatment teams to provide necessary wrap-around care for our clients. Much has been written in recent years regarding spiritual care and its enhancement of mental and physical treatment. It is believed that if spiritual struggles or distress created by something in one's belief system, their spiritual practice or experience is not identified and properly addressed, it very well may have an adverse effect on one's treatment and overall health. This includes but is not limited to chapel services, one-on-one conversations with the chaplain, distribution of religious/spiritual materials, connecting clients with leaders of their chosen faith/spiritual tradition or visiting families during times of crisis. Additionally, care is extended to the staff of kidstlc. Spiritual care, comfort and support are delivered through means as noted above as well as hospital visits to staff members and their families, attending or officiating funerals and weddings. A healthier staff translates into better care which translates into better outcomes for our clients and their families. Additionally, chaplaincy services is intentional in building relationships of reciprocity with local faith communities. In other words, faith communities are provided opportunities by which to volunteer and serve residents of kidstlc while also being informed of the residential and outpatient services kidstlc has to offer to their congregants.”
