“To support the ongoing efforts of the mission of our three winners, a project-specific grant of usd 25,000 was made to ssd films llc, to support 36 seconds a portrait of a hate crime, a documentary film by tarek albaba. In 2015, three muslim-american students (now known as our three winners) were executed while eating dinner in their home in chapel hill, nc. The film examines their families search for justice and activism to set the record straight and open dialogue about hate crimes against muslims in an increasingly divisive america. The film also examines the themes of bias in the media, white supremacy, and systemic racism.”
