Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The audit/financial committee of our board of directors will review a draft of the form 990 prior to filing. The committee will use its best efforts to ensure that the form 990 provides an accurate summary of our purpose, staffing, sources of financial support and use of funds, that the programs supported are consistent with our mission statement and information on our website, and that no activities fall under scrutiny by the irs and that we have adopted policies and practices that promote good governance and operational transparency, which will help foster tax law compliance.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

At our december 2018 board of directors meeting, each member was asked to complete and sign an "affiliation form." this form requested affiliations with any current or potential beneficiary of great public schools now grant or business transaction. Board of directors are asked to recuse themselves from votes on decisions that impact support to organizations that they have listed on this form. Our employee manual also outlines situations where personal interest could conflict, or appear to conflict, with the interests of the organization. Employees are urged to refrain from any such action and, if in doubt, confer with a supervisor.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

The process for setting the compensation of the founding executive director included analysis of regional compensation data for similarly qualified individuals in comparable positions. The board also considered the executive director's previous compensation package and cost of living comparisons. The board approved the compensation plan in january 2016.
